The purple water chicken is a "three-animal animal" (that is, a beneficial, economically valuable, and scientifically research-friendly terrestrial wild animal protected by the state).

It belongs to the crane-shaped order Buzzard family, with a total length of about 44 cm, the plumage is mainly purple-blue and blue-green; the beak is red, thick and developed, with a broad red frontal carapace; except for the white undertail coverts, the entire body plumage is blue-black with purple and green flashes. Females and males are similar in appearance.
Found in Europe and southern Asia, the purple waterfowl is known as the most beautiful water bird, inhabiting reed swamps and lakes rich in aquatic plants, streams, canals, water islands, and coastal swampy scrublands, sometimes in and out of rice fields. It often moves in pairs or in groups of families. Docile and timid, mostly active in the early morning and dusk, and hiding in the reeds during the day. Purple water chicken omnivorous, but mainly feeds on plants, often with a large mouth to pull out aquatic grass rhizomes from the water, grasp with the feet, and peck section by section.
In the Shangri-La region, the purple water chicken is a rare water bird that occasionally enters the area during the spread.
