On July 17, a joint scientific research team set up by Xinjiang Yihe Sturgeon Industry Technology Co., Ltd., Heilongjiang Fisheries Research Institute of The Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, and Yili River Basin Development and Construction Administration Bureau was released to the public, and the team successfully conquered the artificial breeding technology of naked-bellied sturgeon and realized the artificial breeding of naked-bellied sturgeon in the national second-level protected animal for the first time.

The team jointly tackled the problem and opened the artificial breeding study of naked-bellied sturgeon on May 21, obtaining 120,000 naked-bellied sturgeon eggs and artificial fertilization, and calculating that the fertilization rate of fish eggs reached 50%, and obtaining 25,200 naked-bellied sturgeon fry, with a seed hatching rate of 42%. After 50 days of careful cultivation, more than 6,000 sturgeon fry have been preserved, which have reached more than 6 cm, and are now in a good state of development and strong feeding ability. The successful breakthrough in the artificial breeding technology of naked-bellied sturgeon marks a leap-forward progress in the ecological protection work of the Ili River Basin in Xinjiang, especially in the protection and breeding and stocking of naked-bellied sturgeon.
According to Zhang Ying, a researcher at the Heilongjiang Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, the naked-bellied sturgeon (scientific name: Acipenser nudiventris) is a fish of the sturgeon family and sturgeon family. Commonly known as "blue squid", native to the Black Sea, Caspian Sea and Aral Sea basin, the Soviet Union introduced it to Lake Balkhash in 1933-1934, and entered the Ili River system in China, which is a unique species in the Ili River Basin. In the 1960s and 1970s, the annual catch of bare-bellied sturgeon in the Ili River Basin reached 40 tons, becoming an important aquatic wild species in the Ili River Basin.
Since the 1990s, due to factors such as water conservancy engineering construction, agricultural development and unlimited cool fishing, the population of naked-bellied sturgeon in the Ili River Basin has decreased sharply, and it has been on the verge of extinction, and has been listed as a second-class animal in the country and a first-class protected animal in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. At the beginning of the 21st century, the current situation of wild resources of naked-bellied sturgeon attracted great attention from the state and local governments, and invested heavily in organizing forces to carry out research, but due to technical problems such as artificial breeding and seed domestication at that time, the artificial breeding of naked-bellied sturgeon was not successful.
In view of the imminent protection of naked-bellied sturgeon in the Ili River Basin of Xinjiang, the joint team launched a joint research this year, and achieved a successful breakthrough in the artificial breeding technology of naked-bellied sturgeon, and the seedlings obtained from the artificial breeding of naked-bellied sturgeon have greatly enriched the population of naked-bellied sturgeon.
On the basis of the existing breeding technology of naked-bellied sturgeon, the scientific research team will also carry out scientific experiments such as reproductive physiology, feed nutrition, parental cultivation and large-scale breeding of bare-bellied sturgeon on the basis of the original parents and the seedlings cultivated this time, and gradually improve the protection technology of naked-bellied sturgeon after analysis and summary, so as to make this technology more practical, realize the large-scale cultivation of naked-bellied sturgeon seedlings, and lay a solid technical and material foundation for the future research of naked-bellied sturgeon protection technology and the restoration of breeding and stocking populations.
