Zhehu Ruins: Reservoir Village
The reservoir village is located in the northern part of Caojing and is famous for its many rivers, so it is called a reservoir village. The village has more than 70 small islands, 33 large and small rivers, the total length of the river is about 23,000 meters, and the water body area accounts for 28% of the total area of the village, which is the village with the highest water coverage in Jinshan District.
Water is the biggest feature and "highlight" of the reservoir village. But in the past, because of its remoteness, it was called "in the reservoir", and it was difficult for people to even leave the village, and there were no foreign people. In 1958, a reservoir brigade was built here, and "reservoir" officially became a place name. In 1967 it was called the Victory Brigade, and in 1984 it was called Reservoir Village.
Regarding the formation of reservoir villages, it has to be traced back to the distant Western Han Dynasty.
The Jinshan area first belonged to Haiyan County in history. In 221 BC, the twenty-sixth year of Qin Shi Huang, Qin established Haiyan County, which was subordinate to Huiji County. The administrative office of Haiyan County, roughly located in the southeast of today's Jinshan District, was the first county in the administrative area of today's Shanghai. During the Western Han Dynasty, due to changes in geological structure, the county seat of Haiyan suddenly collapsed overnight, forming a large lake called Zhehu. It is said that the area of Zhehai Lake was very large, and some data show that it was 5119 hectares, or 314.27 square kilometers, so it was also called "Zhehai Lake". A considerable part of its lake is located in today's Jinshan Caojing, Shanyang and Fengxian Zhelin areas.
By the time of the Song Dynasty, many sandbars had appeared in the Zhehu area, and by the Qing Dynasty it had basically become flat. However, so far, Caojing Shaji, Ruanxiang, Reservoir Village and other areas are still densely covered with water networks. Especially in the reservoir village, "there is an island in the river, there is a lake in the island", the village has been surrounded by a water network for a long time, I am afraid that it is still a relic left after the county town of Haiyan sank into Zhehu.
The terrain of the reservoir village is complicated, the river is nine curves and ten bends, the rivers and ponds are intertwined, the polder seems to be connected, and the reed thatch shades the sky, not locals, once entered, it is like entering the Ecstasy Bagua Array, and you don't want to go out for half a day. Therefore, there were many bandits entrenched here, there was a saying in Caojing that "robbers came out of the reservoir", and there was a legend about the "black team" eliminating evil and peace.
It is said that before the founding of New China, there was a great Jiangyang thief Lu Tianxi, who took a fancy to the favorable terrain of the reservoir village and used it as a base to kill people, rob people, and kidnap tickets. Lu Tianxi served as a puppet army, grabbed a large ship in the Yangtze River, and was known as the "murderous demon king", with more than 50 people. Since he entrenched himself in the reservoir, I don't know how many families have suffered.
In March 1948, a new team arrived at the reservoir, all dressed in black. This team was highly disciplined and did not alarm the people in the slightest, only sleeping under the eaves, drinking cold water and eating dry food. Slowly, people learned that they were a small detachment of the No. 4 Squadron of the Pudong Brigade of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, the captain was Liu Sufeng and the instructor was Xiao Axe, who had come to eradicate the evil. After the "black-clothed team" was stationed in the reservoir village, they successively suppressed several heinous township chiefs, and the people gave a thumbs up when they talked about it.
In April 1949, the "Black Squad" learned of Lu Tianxi's situation and decided to eliminate this group of habitual bandits and eliminate harm to the people. One night, the "black team" sneaked into Lu Tianxi's house, captured Lu Tianxi in his sleep, and forced him to call Chen Zhiliang, a special agent of the Central Government, and took the two to the reservoir to be executed. After that, the "black-clothed squad" seized the favorable opportunity and successively attacked the Huan'an Self-Defense Force, capturing more than 10 long and short guns and the Fahuaqiao Self-Defense Force, seizing six short guns, dozens of hand grenades, and hundreds of bullets.
The activities of the "black-clothed team" shocked the small bandits in the reservoir area, some of them converged, some changed their evil to good and joined the "black-clothed team", and the people all applauded. After the liberation of Caojing in May 1949, the 4th Squadron of Puxie also went south with the army, but the story of their elimination of harm to the people in the reservoir village remained forever in the hearts of the local people.
After years of treatment and construction, the barren and desolate reservoir has become a peach blossom source. People who come here for sightseeing, boating on the water, strolling in Quemo, full of good scenery in Jiangnan. In 2015, the reservoir village was selected as a beautiful rural demonstration village in Shanghai; In 2017, Reservoir Village won the title of "National Beautiful Leisure Village"; In 2018, the reservoir village was included in the first batch of nine rural revitalization demonstration villages in Shanghai. I believe that the future of the reservoir village will be better!
