From firing the first shot of armed resistance against the Kuomintang's reactionary rule in central Hubei to the establishment of the first red political power in the Honghu Soviet Region, during the long revolutionary years, the military and people of the revolutionary base areas in western Hunan and Hubei were indomitable, fought bloody battles, went forward to succeed each other, and made important contributions to the success of the Chinese revolution and the founding of new China with their lives and blood.

The red spirit continues to nourish this red fertile land, and today's xiang'e west revolutionary old area is inheriting the red gene, continuing to write new glory, and taking a solid step towards high-quality development in this red land with a fighting attitude that does not wait for me.

Red Memory Revolutionary history never forgets

From 1927 to 1934, the revolutionary pioneers represented by He Long, Zhou Yiqun and Duan Dechang, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, insisted on armed division and fought bloody battles, creating the revolutionary base area in western Hunan and Hubei centered on the Honghu Su District.

The famous Honghu Red Guards are the armed forces of the masses under the leadership of several parties active along the Honghu Lake and on the water, who take advantage of the geographical advantages of the rivers, lakes, and ports to carry out guerrilla warfare on the water and cooperate with the Red Army in the struggle against encirclement and suppression. In 1938, Mao Zedong wrote in "On the Strategic Problems of the Anti-Japanese Guerrilla War": "The Honghu guerrilla war in the era of the Red Army was supported for several years, and it is evidence that guerrilla warfare can be developed and a base area can be established in the river, lake, port and areas. ”

In the heyday, the revolutionary base areas in western Hunan and Hubei, together with the guerrilla areas, spanned more than 70 counties, had a population of about 3.7 million, the main Red Army was more than 30,000 people, and the local armed forces were about 200,000 people.

Years of revolutionary struggle have left a deep red mark on Honghu Lake in Hubei Province. There is a bluestone old street in Qujiawan Town called "Red Army Street", and when you walk into the street, you can still see many banners with slogans: "Since He Long lived in the lake, the Red Guards have come out of Honghu Lake", "Long live the Xiang'e West Soviet Provincial Government", "Long live the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army".

The former site of the Xiang'e West Branch of the CPC Central Committee, the former site of the Xiang'e West Provincial Party Committee, the old site of the Xiang'e West Revolutionary Military Commission, the former site of the Propaganda Department of the Xiang'e West Provincial Party Committee, the old site of the Soviet Government of the West Xiang'e Province, the old site of the Workers' and Peasants' Daily... This old street, which is more than 500 meters long, still has 21 revolutionary sites and 18 ruins.

On January 29, 2019, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province, launched legislation on the protection of revolutionary relics in the Xiang'e Western Soviet District. On April 1, 2021, the Regulations on the Protection of Revolutionary Relics in The Xiang'e West Soviet District of Jingzhou City were officially implemented, bringing the protection, management and utilization of revolutionary relics into the track of the rule of law, so that the wingspan cornices, long-established wooden carved stone pillars, mottled wooden doors and plaques can reproduce the glory of the Red Revolution years in a new posture.

The red gene is passed down from generation to generation

In the autumn of 1928, Liu Shaonan, the head of the "Red Five Sons" who remained in Honghu to carry out the revolutionary struggle, was arrested and died heroically because of a traitor's whistle-blowing. Liu Shaonan's knife did not change under the knot, injecting a steady stream of red power into this land of fish and rice. After 94 years, as the grandson of the martyr, Liu Sheng inherited his grandfather's legacy and returned to his hometown to serve as the secretary of the Shaonan Village Branch in Honghu City, Hubei Province, serving the villagers, making the red culture deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, and passing on the revolutionary spirit.

"When my grandfather launched the Daijiachang Autumn Harvest Rebellion, he not only wanted to serve the country, but also wanted to revitalize the township and make the people in his hometown live a little better. At the beginning of his term of office, Liu Sheng secretly swore that he would do his best to serve the villagers.

In the past, Shaonan Village had a lot of garbage and a poor environment, the streets and alleys were all dirt roads, and it was muddy to walk on the road on rainy days. As the leader of Shaonan Village, the first major thing in front of Liu Sheng is "the needs of the people", solving seemingly "trivial" small things for them and making the villagers' lives more comfortable.

"At first, I thought that the environmental remediation in front of the house was just a formality, and many villagers did not think so. Later, when we saw that the party branch and the party members were full of energy, the roads were getting cleaner and cleaner, the environment was becoming more and more beautified, and the garbage was becoming more and more standardized, why did we masses not take action again? The simple words of the common people expressed the "head goose effect" led by Liu Sheng in environmental improvement, and led the broad masses to realize the transformation from "looking from the side" to "taking the initiative to do it".

Now everyone who walks into Shaonan Village, the first feeling is that the village is clean and tidy, the traffic is orderly, and the people live and work in peace and contentment.

The transformation of Shaonan Village is a vivid microcosm of the inheritance of the red gene. "Today's Honghu Lake, the Yangtze River levee, the Honghu Lake embankment is impregnable, the Hongjian Expressway, the Wuhan Metropolitan Circle Expressway Honghu section connects the four sides, 'on both sides of the river', citizens' parks and other people's livelihood projects have been put into use, the old appearance of urban and rural areas has been replaced." Wei Chaodong, secretary of the Honghu Municipal CPC Committee, is full of confidence in the development of Honghu Lake, and said that he will lead the cadres and masses of the whole city to further inherit and carry forward the spirit of the old revolutionary areas, take the party's mass line in the new era, and build up momentum for the revitalization and development of the old revolutionary areas in western Hunan and Hubei.

Red heritage practices high-quality development

Recently, the Xiang'e-Yuqian Red Tourism Promotion Conference was held, and 17 city and state governments from the four provinces and cities of Xiang'e-Yuqian jointly signed a framework agreement on red tourism cooperation.

In order to focus on displaying and promoting red tourism resources and helping the high-quality development of regional red tourism, the Jingzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism issued 5 themes and 15 red tourism classic routes of "Retaking the Road of The Initial Heart and Reliving the Revolutionary Years of Xiang'e and Western Hubei", "Remembering the Revolutionary Martyrs and Inheriting the Red Gene Tour", "Carrying Forward the Spirit of Flood Resistance and Painting a New Picture Of the Beautiful Jingjiang River", "Tracing the Footprints of the Ancestors , Striving for a New Era of Study and Culture Tour", "Experiencing Beautiful Countryside and Helping rural revitalization".

Attracting people with red culture, impressing people with red stories, inspiring people with red power, and infecting people with red hearts, one red tourism route after another has attracted groups of tourists to visit the red homeland, and the quaint neighborhoods are full of new vitality.

The red background color empowers the development of the old areas, not only because of the material support of revolutionary sites, relics and relics, but also because of the spiritual drive of always following the party, not afraid of hardships and dangers, and serving the people wholeheartedly. On the one hand, we should pay attention to protection and the other hand to innovate and develop. In recent years, Honghu Lake has relied on resource endowments such as "Red Hometown", "City of Hundred Lakes" and "Water Town Zeguo" to take the road of ecological development and economic development.

At the end of 2017, all 187,000 mu of purse seine seines in the waters of Honghu Lake were removed, and all 3,453 fishermen permanently landed and settled down. Ecological restoration has also brought huge economic benefits. Honghu lotus root has a high dietary fiber content, has the value of medicinal and food homology, and has a planting history of more than 1,000 years. At present, there are 32 lotus root deep processing enterprises in Honghu City, which have formed a whole industrial chain of lotus root.

The high-quality Honghu water also gave birth to another aquatic business card - the Honghu clear water crab. After years of development, Honghu Lake has become a national river crab breeding standardization demonstration county.

Today's people in the old areas are throwing themselves into the cause of rural revitalization with full enthusiasm, and an old revolutionary area in western Hunan and Hubei, which has economic development, social civilization, a beautiful environment, and people's happiness, is gradually appearing in front of the people's eyes.
