Totoro is an animated film directed by Hayao Miyazaki and voiced by Noriko Hidaka, Chisa Sakamoto, and Shigeto Itoi, released in Japan on April 16, 1988. A high-definition remake was released in China on December 14, 2018.

The film tells the story of Kusabei Tatsuro's wife, Yasuko Kusakabe, who is ill and hospitalized, and he takes Kusabee Gaoyue and his four-year-old sister Kusabe Mei back to live in the countryside. In order to facilitate his wife, Yasuko Kusakibe, to recuperate, Tatsuro Kusabee decided to take his two daughters, Kusakibe Gaoyue and Kusakibe Mei, to the countryside near the nursing home where Yasuko Kusakbi was located, and the father and daughter lived in an old house that had fallen into disrepair. The little sisters soon discover that there are many magical things in the seemingly ordinary countryside, such as the "coal ash" that can gather and scatter in the uninhabited house, the elves in the forest, the owner of the forest, the totoro cat, and the cat bus that often laughs.

One day, after a quarrel between her sister Caobi Mei and her sister Caobi Gaoyue, they went out alone to find their mother, who was sick and hospitalized, but got lost on the way. The sister, looking around fruitlessly, had to turn to Totoro for help. The kind and gentle Totoro summoned the cat bus, carried the sister to find the lost sister, took the Totoro tram, and the sister gave the corn she picked by hand to her mother, hoping that she would recover soon.

The beautiful picture of the film is full of the fresh breath of the rural countryside, but there is no shortage of thrilling scenes in the film. Although the audience is a little nervous, this is also the charm of the film's touching heart. Both adults and children can resonate with the heart in the film. It can be said that it is suitable for all ages. Embellished by Hayao Miyazaki's divine pen, Totoro can sleep in a soft bed, be a soft "pet" worshiped by magicians, and accompany May and Plum to pick mountain fruits. Each bridge section is full of nature's care for human beings, defending the audience's innocent age.

The unique theme, rich ideas and diverse styles of "Totoro" are not without inspiration for the creation of current animated films. The film uses traditional two-dimensional paintings and childlike fantasies to depict human affairs that take place in the beautiful countryside. The innocent and childish fun and simple humanity deeply touched the hearts of the audience and awakened the childhood memories of many adults who had been dusty for a long time.
