According to an Andrew Morton book, "Royal Pride and Prejudice: Diana's Life and Death," Crown Prince Charles asked Princess Diana to be like the funny Sarah Ferguson on August 30.
Crown Prince Charles once asked Princess Diana why she was always so "melancholy" – and wished she could be a little more interesting than Sarah Ferguson.
According to royal writer Andrew Morton, Diana then put on leather pants to a performance by David Bowie in an attempt to show her laid-back side.
His book Pride and Prejudice in the Royal Family: Diana's Life and Death commemorates the 25th anniversary of Diana's unfortunate death. Mr Morton claimed that Princess Diana was frustrated by this, that she had tried to imitate the Duchess of York, and that she regretted that she should not have been led by his nose.
Diana spoke face-to-face with Camilla Parker Bowles about the breakdown of their marriage.
In an open conversation, she detailed the pain of the relationship and the process of battling bulimia.
An excerpt from her book in the Daily Mail series: "My husband hit my confidence in every way: every time I got back on my feet, he knocked me down again.
Fergie seemed to understand the rules of the royal family and went to Buckingham Palace for lunch without being afraid of the stage.
"All of a sudden, everybody said, 'Fergie is amazing, like a breath of fresh air, and thankfully she's a lot more interesting than Diana.'" ”
"I felt extremely uneasy, and I thought maybe I should be like Fergie.
"My husband said: 'I want you to be as relaxed and cheerful as Fergie, why do you always have a sad face?'
"'Why can't you be like Grandma (the Queen's mother)?' I'm glad I don't look like Grandma at all now. I made a lot of messes up in order to imitate Fergie. ”
She added: "Fergie means something else to me, she can please everyone in the family, and I look useless to her.
"I know that at the end Of Allegiance would look around and say, 'Duke (Diana's childhood nickname), how the hell have you come through all these years?' She's said that over the past two years. ”
Royal commentator Kristen Mainzer argued that Fige was a royal favorite.
She said: "I think a lot of places overlook this fact, Fergie is far more popular than Princess Di.
"She was so popular that Prince Charles even asked Princess Diana at one point ' why can't you be a little bit like her'.
"She's full of energy, she's full of energy."
In 1992, Morton published a biography of Diana, which was condemned by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
He was blamed, and one MPs suggested that he be exiled to the Tower of London.
But he was convinced that what he was writing was the truth about Diana, and while he refuted conspiracy theories about Diana's death, he added that she was "absolutely" partnered against her.
