The death of the last "cave man" of the Brazilian tribe marked this genocide.
Indigenous Brazilians, tribes known as the "cave people" became extinct with the death of the last person.
The last "cave man" was reportedly about 60 years old, and after losing all his people, he refused to contact the outside world and relied on himself to hunt in the Amazon rainforest and grow crops to survive. He lived in the state of Rondônia, near the Bolivian border, where he lived in isolation for 26 years.
On August 23, he was found dead in his hammock with parrot feathers, apparently knowing that he was running out of time, and had prepared himself for the funeral.
His nickname, "Cave Man," is also due to his habit of digging holes in his own thatched huts, which, it is speculated, may have been used to hunt animals or hide.
Human rights groups say most of the "cave people" were supposed to have been killed around 1970 when some farmers were deforested, expanded their land, and wantonly slaughtered local natives. Fiona, who investigates survivors of indigenous tribes, said the farmers committed a horrific genocide against local indigenous people for the sake of land and wealth.
