Syria was not spared the severe covid-19 pandemic in 2020, with the first case of the novel coronavirus from abroad recorded on 22 March, with the first death occurring on the 29th of the same month. On August 24, 2022, 56,902 people were infected with the new crown virus, of which 53,123 recovered and 3,162 died.
Under the adverse conditions of the epidemic, sanctions and occasional conflicts, Syria has gradually recovered. The agricultural sector in hasakah province in northeastern Syria expects the first cotton production of about 19,000 tonnes this season, and in areas where agricultural production is stable, the average yield of a one-hectare cotton crop is initially estimated at about 3,250 kg, with 5,910 hectares of cotton planted this year.
