Visit the ancient cities of 5 Western European countries (2) - Luxembourg

author:Parisian Don Sr

It takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes to travel from Sedan to Luxembourg. Today Luxembourg is a very small, independent, constitutional monarchy of more than 600,000 people and 2,586 square kilometers, which has been traced in ancient Rome, and was previously a semi-independent principality with constant changes in suzerainty: the Roman Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, the Duchy of Burgundy, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Spain, the Netherlands, France, etc., until Napoleon's defeat and exile in 1815 did not gain true independence. In European history, through war or marriage, some countries disappeared, some countries were born, there were no unchanged borders, and most European royal families could find kinship. For example, during the First World War, the grandmother of the German king was the grandmother of the English king, and the English king and the Russian emperor had the same grandmother. If it is to be recovered because "the daughter of my king is the mother of your king" or "Your land was my territory in so-and-so century", every country can claim the land of other countries. If the land is to be reclaimed because of this, it will never be completed. Fortunately, most Europeans decided to create a unified EUROPEAN Union without going to war (there are currently 27 countries in the EU). Luxembourg was one of the founding members of the European Community and later the European Union, and today is the world's number one country in terms of GDP per capita.

The Ducal Building is in the Renaissance style and looks relatively simple, not like the richest country in the world.

Luxembourg City has two cities, with a height difference of 30-40 meters. The two photos below are overlooking the lower city from the edge of the cliffs in the upper city.

Ruins of the Upper Castle and the Lower City Monastery.

From the upper town to the lower town, there is an elevator, there is a big road detour, but it is worth walking along the stairs along the cliff side. Walking on the edge of the cliff, the scenery is beautiful, but also very thrilling, the scenery is dazzling! Self-consolation reassures the Luxembourgers of responsibility that no small stones will fall from the sky.

The picture below is a view of the ruins of the upper castle from the cliffs. I used to stand in the castle and look down from above, but now I look up from the bottom and feel that the castle is dangerous to hang on the weathered rocks. Glad to go to the top first, and then maybe your feet will tremble.

Overlooking the spire of the Lower Town Monastery in the distance, there are residents' vegetable gardens nearby, which is enviable.

Ruins of medieval ancient city walls in the lower city. All the bunkers had been cut in half by a former suzerainty, leaving only a thin, low single wall to prevent the new territory from rebelling.
