It is a famous tropical ornamental tree species.
The phoenix flowers are bright as fire and cover the treetops, which are very eye-catching. The petals are five petals, the flowers are falling, and the red carpet under the tree is like a moving, and the flowering period is from May to July. The petals and calyxes can be made into beautiful butterfly works that come to life. The canopy is umbrella-shaped, the tree is very beautiful, and the large tree has slab roots. The pods are woody, up to 50 cm long, very hard, ripe and dark brown, and are the toys of children of yesteryear. The ripe pods split themselves into two pieces and the seeds pop out on their own. Flowers and seeds are poisonous and should not be eaten by mistake.
Phoenix wood is a tropical tree species, which should be fertile and well-drained soil. It is also tolerant to barrenness and is a strongly positive tree species. Not hardy. It only grows in places where the frost period is less than 5-10 days. Resistant to high temperature and high humidity. Leaves usually fall in early spring, and germinate around late spring and early summer.
Phoenix wood is mainly propagated by sowing seeds, sown in April and May in the spring, the seeds are hard, and they must first be soaked in hot water at 90 °C for 5 to 10 minutes or soaked in warm water for one day, and the germination rate is high. Buds can emerge one week after sowing.
What can phoenix wood be applied to
Sidewalk tree: Sidewalk greening tree has a microclimate effect of cooling and humidification in summer, and is a landscape tree that greens, beautifies and fragrances the environment.
Shade tree: In the middle of summer, the maximum crown width of phoenix wood with a chest diameter of 7–8 cm can reach 8㎡–10㎡, and its shading rate is between 50%-70%, the phoenix wood has more branches, the middle and edge of the canopy are not much different, the shading effect is more uniform and the ventilation conditions are better. The relative temperature inside the canopy is 3°C lower than in the exposed area outside, and the maximum temperature is 6°C lower. In summer, the planting ground is generally maintained at about 23-28 ° C, and the relative humidity in the canopy is 10%-20% higher than that of the exposed land outside.
Fertilization and soil modification: the root system has nitrogen-fixing rhizobia, which can save the application of fertilizer, the amount of leaves fallen by phoenix wood is relatively large every year, taking the tree with a chest diameter of 7–8cm as an example, about 3.1kg of leaves fall per year, a large number of leaves provide good cover for ground cover plants, play a role in moisturizing and insulation, improve soil organic matter content and structure, and increase soil fertility.
Wood utilization: Its wood is dense, light and elastic, and can be used as a raw material for furniture, panels, and papermaking.

Flowers and seeds are poisonous. Children who are poisoned by accidental seed ingestion have dizziness, salivation, bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea and other digestive tract symptoms. The aqueous extract of the stem bark has an emetic effect and an inhibitory effect on the central nervous system in cats and monkeys. The alcohol and water extract of the flower have the effect of killing roundworms. Toxic ingredients are unknown. Flowers contain carotenoids. The seeds contain phosphate ester compounds such as hemolytic ovophosphates. The stem bark contains erythritol and white cornflower glycosides. Accidental ingestion can cause abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, dizziness, salivation and other symptoms.
