New York State Police reported on August 12 that a man rushed to the stage and stabbed him more than a dozen times that morning during a public speech at the Chautauqua Institution near Buffalo, New York. The man has been arrested and Rushdie has been rushed to hospital for rescue.

According to reports, at about 11 a.m. that day, the 75-year-old Rushdie was giving a speech at the Shautoqua Research Institute when a man dressed in black suddenly rushed to the stage wearing a black mask and stabbed Rushdie more than a dozen times.

Live security guards and spectators suppressed the attackers on stage, and hundreds of spectators were asked to quietly leave the amphitheater.

The attacker, Named Hadi Matar, is from New Jersey.

After Rushdie's assassination, staff and several spectators took to the stage to treat him.

According to Rushdie's agent, Andrew Wylie, after being helped off the stage, Rushdie was rushed to hospital by an Air Force helicopter and put on a ventilator, with nerves in one of his arms severed, liver damaged, and a grim outlook for one of his eyes.

Rita Landman, an endocrinologist who was present, said she came to power to provide medical assistance.

She said Rushdie had multiple knife wounds on his body, including one on the right side of his neck, and a pool of blood beneath his body.

Rushdie was rushed to the hospital by helicopter for rescue.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul praised the police's swift response to the "terrorist incident," saying a state police officer "stepped forward and saved his life."

However, some of those who attended the event expressed anger at the lack of security enhancements.

The attacker, Hardy Matar, was subdued by security guards and spectators.

Rushdie has lived in New York since 2000 and has U.S. citizenship. His novel The Satanic Psalms, published in 1989, was considered by some religious figures to be a "blasphemy against the Prophet," sparking riots around the world and burning of bookstores.

Iran's former Supreme Leader Khomeini offered a reward for Rashid's execution, which is currently worth as much as £2.7 million. The execution order covers others associated with the Satanic Psalms, and the Japanese translator of the book, Igarashi Hitoshi, was stabbed to death in 1991.

Marcus Dole, Publisher of Rushdie and CEO of Penguin Random House, expressed shock and unease at Rushdie's attack and condemned the attack.

Muslim communities on both sides of the Atlantic were quick to condemn the attack. The British Muslim Council said on social media twitter that "the perpetrators must be brought to justice". Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said: "American Muslims, like all Americans, condemn any act of violence against anyone in our society. ”
