Returning to China to teach and create a "highlight moment" for scientific research

In the laboratory, Zhang Han walked very fast, almost in a "running" posture, but when staring at the experimental vessel or looking at the data, his eyes always did not move away for a long time, and the whole person seemed to be fixed. In recent years, he has been selected as the "Global Highly Cited Scientist" for 4 consecutive years, and is currently the youngest fellow of the Optical Society of America, and this year, he has won the 24th "Guangdong Youth May Fourth Medal". Behind each "highlight" moment, Zhang Han's down-to-earth, brave climbing to the peak, and devoting himself to scientific research in the "no man's land" in exchange.

In 2006, after obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Physics from Wuhan University, Zhang Han went to Singapore to study at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and received a doctorate degree in microelectronics in 2010. In the same year, he went to Brussels, Belgium for further study, and after completing his postdoctoral studies in 2012, he was appointed as a distinguished professor and doctoral supervisor of Shenzhen University. After returning to China, Zhang Han successively established the first black phosphorus laboratory in China and formed a scientific research team of "Sensing of All Things", which is committed to the research and development of black phosphorus, the research and development of basic semiconductor materials and chips, the research and development of sensor water quality monitoring technology and system, and the research and development and industrialization of new coronavirus detection. "Black phosphorus is a new semiconductor material, similar to graphene, but in many properties can be comparable to or even surpass graphene. At the same time, black phosphorus also has good biocompatibility and has obvious advantages in targeted biological therapy. "Scientific research is not achieved overnight, even if Zhang Han's team has broadened the boundaries of black phosphorus application again and again, but its broad application prospects allow him to keep moving forward." I believe that in the future, there will be good news for everyone in the research and development of new materials such as black phosphorus. Zhang Han said.

At present, Zhang Han's team is taking the lead in carrying out comprehensive testing for the environment in the country with water quality safety as the guide. In the latest scientific research, the research team has overcome technical difficulties in many fields, created the photonic CRISPR sensing methodology, and successfully used it for rapid detection and typing of the new crown virus, with an accuracy rate of 99%.

The combination of production, education and research, scientific research serves life

"Shenzhen's academic atmosphere and scientific research atmosphere have strong characteristics, and the ability of scientific research to land and transform is strong. At present, Zhang Han and his team are developing a new technology of sewage virus photoelectric sensing, which is a new nucleic acid sensing platform (MOPCS). During the holiday, the "All Things Sensing" team combined with the latest national sewage enrichment concentration and nucleic acid detection method standards, and carried out 10 consecutive days of sewage new crown monitoring in medium and high-risk areas such as corresponding sealing and control communities and international cold chain logistics enterprises in Shenzhen, and provided early warning information in a timely manner when residual new crown nucleic acid fragments were detected. "Compared with the traditional method, the new technology detection method omits the amplification step, greatly shortens the detection time, increases the specificity by more than 10 times, and can obtain the information of the new crown virus infection with an accuracy of up to 99.9% in 30 minutes, and accurately distinguish the type of mutated strain, which greatly improves the accuracy and speed of virus detection." Zhang Han said. Rapid detection of sewage new coronavirus can achieve low-cost and normalized new crown prevention and control, which not only significantly reduces the cost of fighting the epidemic, but also exports Shenzhen's experience to the national fight against the epidemic.

However, in the early days of the experiment, in order to eliminate the interference of false signals in the water body on the detection results, the scientific research team conducted hundreds of control experiments and countless quality control experiments... It is reported that the technology has now entered the pilot stage, and in the cooperation project with the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, it is applied to the new crown detection of imported goods and the new crown detection of environmental sewage, which has realized the rapid inspection of positive new crown goods and the environmental safety confirmation of the epidemic prevention and control area. "Once MOPCS proves to be feasible, in the future we can lay dots in important drains, communities and hospitals in various cities, and place photoelectric sensors and equipment in the corresponding places to play a role in early warning of the distribution of virus concentrations." At the same time, in order to save manpower and avoid cross-infection, the team is also fully developing a fully automatic sewage virus rapid detection equipment, which is used to realize the full automation of the sampling to detection process, including the pre-centrifugation module and the flocculant addition module.

"The best research often comes from life, and the best scholarship often serves life." Zhang Han believes that scientific research should solve the needs around us. Dr. Tang Yuxuan, a member of its team, agrees: "I originally came to Shenzhen with the goal of publishing articles and china funds. In recent years, more than 10 of its students have been employed as young professors, including assistant professors at Harvard University and outstanding young people in Guangdong Province. When he returned to China in 2013, he set himself two goals: continuous innovation in scientific research, continuous breakthroughs in talent training, and training entrepreneurs with the spirit of scientists and scientists with entrepreneurial spirit for the country. This is what Zhang Han is still pursuing.
