On August 11, the 9th China Lightweight Commercial Vehicle Body Conference was opened during the "2021-2022 (15th) International Automobile Lightweight Conference and Exhibition (ALCE2021-2022)". The body conference was hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers of China (hereinafter referred to as "Society of Automotive"), the Strategic Alliance for Technological Innovation of Automobile Lightweight Technology (hereinafter referred to as the "Lightweight Alliance"), and hosted by China Automobile (Beijing) Automotive Lightweight Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. Wang Dengfeng, professor of Jilin University and director of the Expert Committee of the Lightweight Alliance, introduced in his speech that in recent years, although the new crown epidemic has had a great impact on the automotive industry, the production and sales of mainland automobiles have remained at a high level and ranked first in the world for 13 consecutive years. With the continuous increase of car ownership in mainland China, the demand for oil resources continues to grow rapidly, the contradiction between energy supply and demand is becoming increasingly prominent, and the dependence on imported oil has risen to 72% in 2021. Although the growth rate of the commercial vehicle market in mainland China is much lower than that of passenger cars, its bicycle fuel consumption, frequency of use, and mileage are higher than that of passenger cars, and more than half of the gasoline and diesel are consumed with about 15% ownership, which is the main body of fuel consumption on mainland roads. Therefore, the energy saving, emission reduction and carbon reduction of commercial vehicles are of great significance. On June 17, 2022, the Fuel Consumption Limits for Heavy Commercial Vehicles (Draft for Comments) issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) benchmarked against the international leading level, which is 15% stricter than the limit standards implemented in 2019. This poses greater challenges to mainland commercial vehicle companies, and also brings opportunities for the development of lightweight technology for commercial vehicles. Wang Dengfeng said that the Automotive Lightweight Conference provides a professional and knowledgeable lightweight technology exchange platform, hoping that all parties participating in the meeting can share advanced technological achievements through this platform, and participating enterprises can gain and inspire to jointly promote the progress of lightweight technology for commercial vehicles.

Fabio D'Aiuto, director of the automotive mobility business of the Brazilian Mining and Metallurgical Company, introduced in his speech that in the past year, the strength of steel used in passenger cars has been greatly improved, and now there is such a development trend in commercial vehicles. Commercial vehicles are currently facing the problem of how to save fuel, increase load capacity, improve durability and reduce maintenance costs, which puts forward extremely high requirements for the performance of automotive materials. Mr. Fabio D'Aiuto said that as a global technology company, Brazilian Mining and Metallurgical Company is able to provide disruptive niobium technology (elements that improve the performance of steel) for future sustainable development.
