The giant fire pit is located in the village of Devize in the Karakum Desert, which has about 350 inhabitants. In 1971, when the former Soviet Geologists were conducting oil exploration in the local area, they found natural gas, and due to the collapse of the drilling equipment, there was a natural gas leak, and finally formed a huge crater 70 meters wide. They were worried about the toxic gas released by the natural gas, and decided to ignite the natural gas, thinking that the natural gas would soon burn out, but they did not expect that the fire had been burning until now.
