Pycnosorus is a genus of 6 plant species in the Asteraceae family. Often referred to as billy buttons or drumsticks, they are annual or perennial herbaceous plants or small shrubs with heads cylindrical to spherical, up to 200 daisy-shaped "flowers".
Plants of the genus Pycnosorus are annual or perennial herbaceous plants with leaves that gradually decrease with the size of the stem, and the leaves at the base wither first. The flowers are arranged in an oval shape, more or less spherical, with 40 to 200 flower-like partial head-shaped inflorescences. Each section head consists of three to eight small flower-like "florets". The florets and bracts surrounding them are yellow or golden. Each flower has five petals connected together to form a tube. After pollination, the flowers turn into silky, lean fruits with a ring of feathery mane.
