Chikungunya
"Chikungunya" is taken from a word in the Kimakonde language meaning "to become crooked" and describes what a patient would look like due to joint pain.
Chikungunya fever is an acute infectious disease caused by chikungunya virus (CHIKV) and transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, characterized by fever, rash, and joint pain. Chikungunya was first confirmed in Tanzania in 1952 and the virus was isolated in 1956. The disease is mainly endemic in Africa and South-East Asia, and in recent years has caused large-scale epidemics in the Indian Ocean region.
01 What is the transmission route of chikungunya?
Chikungunya virus is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. The main vectors of transmission are Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. People are generally susceptible.

02 What are the clinical symptoms of chikungunya virus infection?
High fever, headache, muscle and joint pain. May be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, photophobia, conjunctival hyperemia, abdominal pain, maculopapular rash, or bleeding. It usually lasts for days or even weeks.
