Halyomorpha halys is a genus of insects in the family Hemiptera. Because it releases unpleasant odors when disturbed or frightened, it is also known as fart worms, stink bugs and stinky big sisters.

Biological and morphological characteristics

Tea-winged bugs can occur in 1 to 2 generations a year in North China.

After the fertilized female adults overwinter, the adults sting from late April to early May of the following year. Adult overwintering generations lay their eggs in June, and a generation of nymphs occurs. Eggs laid before early June can be feathered into first-generation adults before August. The first generation of adults lays eggs quickly and a second generation of nymphs occurs. Eggs laid after early June can only occur for one generation. The feathered adults after mid-August are all overwintering adults. After October, the adults continue to overwinter.

Adult insects are clustered, mostly overwintering under eaves, wall crevices and stone crevices, and some sneak indoors to overwinter.

Transmission routes and distributions

Because the adult worm seeks shelter when temperatures are low, it tends to enter containers, vehicles, machinery and other cargoes, resulting in a high risk of transmission of these goods when importing and leaving during the cold season.

Tea wing bugs occur in large numbers in China, Korea, Korea and Japan, and since the mid-1990s, tea wing bugs have been introduced to the United States, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, France, Italy, Hungary and Greece, and continue to spread to become a world pest.

Socio-economic and ecological hazards

Tea-winged bugs host a wide range of crops such as apples, pears, peaches, cherries, apricots, begonias and hawthorns, as well as crops such as soybeans, beans and sugar beets, as well as trees such as elms, plane trees and goji berries.

Adults and nymphs suck on the sap of young leaves, shoots and fruits, and after the fruit is damaged, it is a convex and uneven deformed fruit, and after the near-ripe fruit is damaged, the flesh of the victim becomes empty and the wood is bolted.

Due to the lack of control of natural predators in the new invasion areas, the tea wing bug has rapidly evolved into a major pest, according to statistics, there are currently 170 crops that have been harmed, and the loss of the apple industry alone in the United States in 2010 reached $37 million.

► Depending on the biological characteristics of the tea-winged bug, most countries generally adopt seasonal quarantine measures.

Here, Xiaobian reminds the majority of import and export enterprises to pay attention to preventing tea wing bugs from "smuggling":

【Animal and Plant Quarantine】 Takes you to understand the tea wing bug - an agricultural pest that is not picky

1

Plant pest control and cleaning. From May to early July each year, insects are sprayed on the plant site and the surrounding environment, including greening the canopy and the ground under the trees. Regularly clean the workshop, warehouse, and isolate the packaging warehouse.

2

Protection of product storage. Insect-proof measures are taken for open storage of products, and before being transported for export, careful inspection of products, especially automobiles, machinery and equipment, etc.

3

Containers are cleaned regularly. Thoroughly clean the contents of the container before packing to ensure that it does not contain plants, plant products, insects, snails, soil, animal carcasses, etc. Keep pests out of the box when packing.
