"Social fear" is a big label for contemporary young people, and I have always wanted to go to a familiar and unfamiliar country, open myself up and contact new things in the world, so I chose to go to Malaysia.

Since I was a child, I have been a relatively introverted and nervous person, and I don't like to socialize much, and one of the reasons I chose to study in Malaysia is because there are more Asian faces here, and I will be more comfortable with each other.

Malaysia is a multi-racial country, there are Malays, Chinese, Indians, etc. living here for a long time, I think the Malay personality is somewhat similar to mine, most of them are more moderate and conservative, and belong to the type that does not actively socialize.

But I came with the goal of changing myself, I wanted to use the life of studying abroad to open up my social skills, I began to try to take the initiative to communicate with the Malay classmates around me. The ideal is very full, the reality is very bone, and for me, it is not easy to open the topic.

I went back to school with my classmates after a dinner party, where there were Chinese and Malays. We usually communicate in English, but everyone doesn't talk along the way, which makes me embarrassed. I plucked up the courage to open the topic and let everyone talk about what kind of dishes of their own country they would cook, which were normal at the beginning, the scene suddenly became hot, and when it was my turn, the style of painting began to change.

My brain was hot at the time, and I blurted out "chili fried meat", and I regretted it when I said it. My Malay classmate was a very traditional Muslim and I had completely forgotten about his religious taboos, which in his eyes may have been deliberately done by me.

The atmosphere of the scene was so awkward that I really couldn't stand it, apologized and forgot to say it, and closed myself all the way. Afterwards I sincerely apologized to him, he accepted my apology, but still blocked me on social software.

Although the official religion of Malaysia is Islam, it is actually a country with free religious beliefs, and people with religious beliefs and non-religious beliefs can basically live in harmony.

After the "chili stir-fried meat" incident, I deeply realized the importance of communication, this kind of misunderstanding and mistake caused by cultural differences, I don't want to have a second time.

But what to think about, the "cultural difference" incident happened again, but this time it was the turn of Malaysian students to misunderstand our Chinese.

Malaysians speak Chinese and English in addition to Malay, and some also speak Hindi, so they actually have Chinese names. I was doing homework in a group with a Malaysian classmate in a class at school, and suddenly one day he asked me, "Are Chinese names two words?" ”

I was very puzzled and asked him why he had such doubts, and he confidently told me that because Malaysians Chinese names are usually three characters, but the names of another Chinese classmate and I are two characters, he naturally concluded that "Chinese names are two characters".

I laughed with my Chinese classmates and told him it just happened that we were both two words. Since then, I have also learned that cultural differences are not terrible, but terrible is my not very bright brain.

The study abroad life in Malaysia was not as smooth as I thought, but I also gained a lot of unexpected surprises and warmth. I gradually became cheerful and talkative, more measured in my work, and moved closer to the ideal self in my heart.

I was given an interview assignment at school, I needed to find a master's student to interview, I was an undergraduate in Malaysia at the time, I did not know the senior sister who was studying for a master's degree, and finally with the help of Malay classmates, I finally found a suitable student.

The student sister was very nice, originally I was bothering her with this interview, but she was very enthusiastic, and booked me a discussion room, and brought me a small snack when I went to her. She said that there are many Chinese studying and living in Malaysia, and many schools are also very welcoming to Chinese students, and the evaluation of Chinese students is relatively high, so she is very willing to accept my interview.

This gave me great motivation and reminded me of the "criticism" of my friends before coming to Malaysia. In the eyes of many domestic friends, "going to Malaysia does not go to Europe and the United States to have face", "Malaysia is all pheasant universities", "only go to Malaysia if you have bad grades"...

But in fact, Malaysia is not as bad as rumors, and it has several top-ranked schools. Life here is also very good, the friendliness of the Malays makes people feel warm, the familiar Chinese faces make people feel very intimate, and there is no obstacle in life that cannot be overcome.

There is a saying that "what suits me is the best", I believe that my choice is not wrong, and I can have a better life by being the best of myself.
