This growth rate should be among the highest in the world.
Land reclamation process
The new reclamation projects are basically offshore reclamation. For example, Jurong Island, Toku kwang Island, Sentosa Island and Semagao Island are very typical examples. In Changi Bay, for example, 900 hectares of reclamation will be underway this year. The reclaimed area of Changi Bay is located along Tanah Merah Coast Road, close to landmarks such as Changi Airport, Changi Convention and Exhibition Centre, and The Greenway Around the Island.
In the East Coast region, SURBA Corporation is responsible for planning and managing Singapore's East Coast Reclamation Scheme, adding 1,525 hectares of prime land that extends from the eastern part of Singapore's coastline to the southern urban area.
Reclaimed land has been used in various development plans, including some high-rise residential and commercial buildings, a beach, a portion of recreational facilities and a highway.
East Coast Park, esplanade theatre for performing arts, Suntec City International Convention and Exhibition Centre and The Ritz-Carlton represent just a few of the many famous landmarks in the 19-year-long project.
In the future, the total area of Singapore will increase to 766 square kilometers.
