Ronald Searle's creative thinking from funny to surreal

Ronald Searle (Ronald Searle 3 March 1920 – 30 December 2011) was a British artist, comic book master and satirist. Born in England on 3 March 1920. Studied at the College of Arts, University of Cambridge.

At the age of fifteen, he published his first cartoon in the Cambridge Daily newspaper, and thus began a 75-year comic book life. From 1946 until he published his last political cartoon in the French newspaper Le Monde in 2008, he could see such a name in almost all newspapers and magazines in britain and the United States: Ronald Searle.

World War II broke out. In 1939 he became an architectural draftsman for the British Army. In October 1941, he arrived in Singapore with his army. However, the claws of Japanese imperialist aggression reached out to Singapore. A month later, Singapore surrendered to Japan. Ronald Searle became a prisoner of war, repeated the work of carrying stones every day, and if he neglected, he would be beaten by Japanese overseers, you know, each stone weighed 84 pounds. Persist in the terrible conditions of intense labor, beatings, hunger and disease. From Changi Prison to the construction of the railway in Siam, Burma, he used tape recorders and paintbrushes to record the evil acts of Japanese imperialism. He hid his picture books under the mattresses of cholera-infected prisoners to preserve them. It provides an important war record for future exhibitions.

Ronald Searle is not only a cartoonist, but also a reportage writer, illustrator, writer, graphic designer, and animator. The collections and exhibitions he created during his lifetime are numerous.
