National Monument
The monument is a landmark of Thimphu and was conceived by His Majesty Jigme Dorjee Wangchuk, King III of Bhutan ( the father of modern Bhutan). After the completion of the stupa in 1974, he died. It is a monument built both to commemorate the late king and to world peace, and is also the place where the Thimphu people's daily turning tower is concentrated.
