From 1987 to the present, the Dutch Oceano shipyard has always impressed the superyacht industry. With a focus on designing and building custom superyachts up to 160 meters in length, "quality and innovation" is at the heart of everything Oceanco does. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the shipyard's construction of yachts. To celebrate this moment, this article delves into the story behind Oceanco and how it built the world's most iconic superyacht. For Oceanco, "every detail counts".

Oceanco has an impressive 28 acres of yacht construction facilities in the Netherlands and an extensive design, sales and marketing office in Monaco, with significant growth over the past 35 years.
In 1987, the Oceanco brand name was first introduced in Monaco's design offices, construction facilities in South Africa and outfitting facilities in the Netherlands. In 1993, a factory was purchased in the Dutch town of Drumel, and just four years later, in 1997, the shipyard was relocated to a larger factory, the Van der Giessen de Noord shipyard in Alblasserdam, which is still located there today.
The Oceanco brand has thrived in both success and reputation, and the appointment of theory Angelopoulos as chairman in 2002 created greater growth opportunities for the brand. With the appointment of the new chairman, Oceanco began a new business strategy: "Oceanco will focus on the niche market for yachts over 80 meters, Y700 generation yachts'. As a new generation of superyachts over 80 meters, they witnessed the birth of Oceanco's most iconic yachts, including the 82-meter "Alfa Nero" (formerly Y702) launched in 2007 and the famous "Seven Seas" of Spielberg.
“Seven Seas ”号
In 2010, Oceanco undertook another expansion. The Dutch shipyard welcomed Al Barwani as new chairman and owner, and Marcel Onkenhout as CEO. Oceanco's transformation begins here: a new, innovative and advanced journey to build an 80+ superyacht.
With the increasing length and complexity of Oceanco yachts year by year, and the growing demand for Oceanco yacht construction, a new dry dock facility was built in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, in 2015. For the shipyard, "this is an important decision that contributes to the development of the Drechtsteden regional facility and the strengthening of its maritime status." Soon after, in 2019, Heerema Zwijndrecht was acquired by the brand as part of its "long-term development, expansion and consolidation of its construction activities".
The strategy of 2002 marked the shipyard's beginning of construction of technologically advanced superyachts, undoubtedly pushing Oceanco down a great path. Today, it not only continues to build the world's largest and most innovative yachts, but has also become a sustainability pioneer in the industry: advocating for green technologies, responsible materials and environmentally friendly equipment, moving away from traditional fossil fuels and moving into the future.
CEO Marcel Onkenhout commented: "As shipbuilders, we always remember that we should never pursue innovation for the sake of innovation; Innovation should always add benefits to the owner.
Marketing Director Paris Balumis added: "We are indeed building yachts, but we also want to create a better world for future generations. ”
The launch of this year's "superyacht NFTs" into the NFT field is another classic example of Oceanco's pioneering spirit. Oceanco became the first superyacht manufacturer to enter the irreplaceable token space, once again demonstrating its commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional industries and embracing a growing future with technological leadership. Designed by Timur Bozca, the limited NFT series blends authentic design with superior functionality, custom owner benefits, and a large selection of rare items.
"For Oceanco, entering the world of NFTs is a natural process and we want to make sure we offer something unique and exciting. In March, Paris Baloumis commented at the NFT launch.

A respected superyacht shipyard, Oceanco has been building iconic yachts since 1987 and has continuously expanded its fleet to demonstrate its approach to "daring to ask new and daring questions". Let's take a look at the Dutch shipyard's most iconic yacht since the market expansion in 2002.

91.5m "Tranquility"
Tranquility represents another industry initiative for Oceanco. With a length of 91.5 meters, the boat became the first passenger yachting code (PYC) compliant superyacht, "a set of technical, safety and operational standards for the size and use of private yachts" that can accommodate up to 26 guests. For the Tranquility, the construction process required careful consideration to ensure optimal functionality, as well as materials and fabrics that strictly complied with PYC requirements. As a PYC-compliant yacht, the Tranquility has a remarkable exterior designed by the Dutch shipyard and a breathtaking interior designed by Winch Design.
110 meters "Kaos"
When delivered in 2017, the 110-meter Kaos became the largest yacht Ever built by Oceanco and the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands. Also PYC compliant, she can accommodate up to 30 guests on a striking interior designed by Sam Sorgiovanni. With Igor Lobanov's exterior design, the Kaos subtly presents the "fake deck" in her superstructure as a "visual technique to mask the above-average deck height", creating a wider sense of space on board.
106.7 m Black Pearl
The 106.7-meter Black Pearl is one of the most advanced Oceanco yachts to date. Delivered in 2018, three gigantic DynaRig masts adorn her superstructure not only create an impressive image, but also the world's most eco-oriented sailing vessel capable of crossing the ocean without the need for fossil fuels. In addition to a state-of-the-art sail system that utilizes a 2,877 square meter sail area to regenerate power, the Black Pearl has a single-deck cabin and an innovative hybrid propulsion unit. The use of wind energy to convert into electricity creates the possibility of completely zero emissions across the Atlantic. Combining zero-emission travel with modern comfort and luxury, this 106.7-meter superchondour is oceanco's work of ingenuity.
90 m "DAR"
DeBasto Design Studios prides itself on designing the DAR delivered in 2018, which was originally known as the "Shark" project because of its sleek, shark-like shape. The Y700 series superyacht 90 meters "DAR" built as another new generation Oceanco is "unlike any floating superyacht today". The boat combines the latest advanced glass technology with a superstructure made entirely of reflective glass. At the time of delivery, she became the first yacht in the Netherlands to be officially awarded the Lloyds Classification System (IBS) symbol and designation. With Nuvolari Lenard's contemporary interior design, DAR has been fully utilized to maximize opportunities for outdoor living.

With a spectacular design team of Espen Øino, Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, David Kleinberg Design Associates and Lateral Naval Architecture, CEO Marcel Onkenhout emphasized: "She represents the true power of co-creation, which is at the heart of all our projects. ”
"We don't replicate a successful iconic ship" "We'd rather create a new one", and eventually Oceanco will continue to do so. As an industry, we can look ahead to the world of superyachts of the future, spearheaded by brands like Oceanco.
