Syria was not spared the severe covid-19 pandemic in 2020, with the first case of the novel coronavirus from abroad recorded on 22 March, with the first death occurring on the 29th of the same month. As of June 30, 2022, 55,927 people have been infected with the new crown virus, of which 52,758 have recovered and 3,150 have died.

Under the adverse conditions of the epidemic, sanctions and occasional conflicts, Syria has gradually recovered. Syria's minister of local administration and environment said that since the outbreak of the Syrian war, China has supported Syria and provided a lot of support, especially in the humanitarian and relief fields, not to mention bilateral cooperation with numerous Chinese, including in the field of renewable energy. Assistant Syrian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Ayman Susan said the aid showed China's support for Syria and reflected a strong bilateral relationship. China has been committed to sympathizing with the suffering of the Syrian people and condemning some countries for plundering Syria's resources such as wheat and oil.
