This is an ancient narrative that spans the past and the present, across the east and west, along the trajectory of the Silk Road, and meets us again today. Nanning Museum's 2024 May 18 special exhibition "Narrative - Exquisite Exhibition of Ancient Syrian Cultural Relics" will lead everyone to listen to this "narrative" from Syrian culture.
The exhibition, co-sponsored by the Nanning Museum and the China Cultural Relics Exchange Center, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on May 18 International Museum Day in the special exhibition hall (1) on the first floor of the Nanning Museum.
Ancient and glorious civilization
What kind of imprints have been left today?
How to measure the thickness of civilization?
Ancient Syria was one of the cradles of civilization, and it was once called the "Levant", which means the place where the sun rises, and it is a place for people's romantic reverie. About 3 million years ago, in the early Paleolithic period, there were signs of hominid activity in Syria. This is where the long process of civilization begins.
This exhibition starts from the Stone Age in Syria and continues to the Bronze Age, Iron Age, as well as the Greek, Roman and Islamic Ages, and is divided into five units: "Dawn", "Change", "Hegemony", "Integration" and "Dialogue", depicting a magnificent epic that lasts for hundreds of thousands of years.
What can we see standing at the crossroads of civilizations?
Since ancient times, Syria has been located at the crossroads of three continents, Asia, Africa and Europe, where various cultures have exchanged and blended, resulting in a unique Syrian culture. With more than 3,500 monuments, Syria is like a vast museum exposed under a blue sky.
This exhibition brings together 8 foreign museums such as the National Museum of Damascus, the Aleppo Museum, and the Deir Ezzor Museum, as well as the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum in mainland China, with a total of 97 pieces/sets of exquisite cultural relics. Including stoneware, pottery, ironware, sculptures, murals, etc.

Friendly exchanges between China and Syria on the Silk Road
More than 2,000 years ago, an ancient trade route connected Syria and China, which were thousands of miles apart, and the two places exchanged trade and culture, which also had an important impact on the development of their respective civilizations. "Narrative - Exquisite Exhibition of Ancient Syrian Cultural Relics" has toured the mainland for many stops in 2021 and finally came to Nanning on May 18, 2024 International Museum Day.
