With its abundance of lakes, rivers, and mountains, Arkansas is not surprising in the United States for being known as the "state of nature" for its outstanding natural beauty and quaint little towns. We travel through this great Arkansas, choosing our top ten beautiful towns that just need to be seen.

Jasper

Located in the heart of Newton County, Jasper is a scenic town nestled in the Osoka Mountains, not far from the Buffalo National River – the first waterway in the United States to be designated a national river. Surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, the lush wildlife surrounding the town is home to roaming elk herds, which celebrate the area's reintroduction each year alongside Jasper's Buffalo River Elk Festival. Jasper's quaint downtown area boasts historic buildings such as the AKansas House Inn, a hotel that opened in 1934, and quirky antique shops like Emma's Museum of Junk.

Eureka Springs

Located in 1879, Eureka Springs is a spa town, a picturesque town of Mount Ozark, built on a steep hillside surrounded by 60 natural springs. As one of the nation's top arts destinations, Eureka Springs has been included in The American Style Magazine's Top 25 Small Cities Art for Four Years, along with a vibrant community of independent art galleries, and home to the annual opera house of the Ozark Festival. Eureka Springs' historic downtown district, filled with beautiful Victorian architecture with winding streets, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

Siloam Hot Springs

Bordering neighboring Oklahoma is the beautiful Siloam Springs — a small town founded in the early 1880s that people flock to the area to gain the healing power of its many springs. Named one of america's best small towns by Smithsonian's magazine in 2012, the heart of Siloam Springs is home to its gorgeous historic downtown, where beautiful old buildings such as the Crown Hotel (formerly the Lakeside Hotel, built in 1881) are home. Unique boutiques and trendy restaurants give the town an international advantage, and Siloam Springs' charming parks and scenic Sager Creek have swept the town, making it ideal for nature lovers.

El dorado

The city of Eldorado is located in southern Arkansas, just a few miles from the Louisiana border. It's a pre-1920s oil-booming town nestled in Timberlands, Arkansas, and is currently in a renaissance. In fact, its revitalized downtown area was named america's best downtown by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 2009. Full of southern charm, El Dorado offers a glimpse into regional arts and culture, including events such as the Southern Folk Festival and the Southern Food and Wine Festival. Other local attractions include South Arkansas Arts Center and South Arkansas Botanical Gardens - 13 acres of botanical gardens filled with blooming plant growth and walking trails.

Mountain Home

Located just south of the Missouri border, Mountain Home is a quiet town and one of Arkansas' most popular vacation and retirement destinations. Nestled between two stunning lakes – Norfork Lake in the east and Bull Shoals Lake in the west – Mountain Home is an ideal starting point to explore the natural beauty that Ozarks, Arkansas has to offer. Its quaint city centre boasts historic buildings such as the beautiful Case-Shiras-Dearmore House, built in 1870 in a minimalist traditional style, as well as a range of lovely restaurants and locally owned boutiques.

Van Buren

Located opposite Fort Smith on the scenic Arkansas River, the beautiful town of Van Buren was incorporated into 1842 and became an important riverport city in the years leading up to the Civil War. Much of the town's history is still evident today, especially in its historic main neighborhood, where there are beautifully restored buildings such as the King's Opera House and the Italian-style Crawford County Courthouse, all built in 1842, as well as the modern architecture and trendy neighborhood of Van Buren. Batesville

Built on the edge of the White River in northern Arkansas, Batesville dates back to the early 1800s, when the Trimble and Lafferty families first settled in the area, and in fact, it is arkansas' oldest city. Batesville is an ideal vacation destination for history buffs, with Arkansas' oldest downtown and first urban farmstead. The Arkansas Scottish Arts Festival, held annually at the College of Lyon, celebrates the Scottish traditions of the region. Charming Pocket Park on Batesville Avenue features beautiful mosaics and community gatherings, while the rest of its city centre has plenty of lovely craft shops and cosy cafes.

Heber Springs

With Greers Ferry Lake becoming the closest neighbor, it's no wonder the town of Heber Springs in northern Arkansas is a natural haven for nature lovers. On Greers Ferry Lake and the nearby Little Red River, the world's record-breaking catchers have seen avid anglers flock to the lakeside town. The annual World Championships Cardboard Tournament and the annual Hebrew Springs Fireworks Display — one of Arkansas' largest fireworks displays — offer additional summer, lake-related fun. Heber Springs' historic downtown is home to magnificent county courthouses, numerous art galleries and antique shops, and a lovely tree-lined spring park.

Magnolia is a lovely town nestled in the lush pine forests of south-central Arkansas, blended into 1855 and today has a typical small American town feel, with quaint courthouse squares and a charming historic downtown. There are plenty of outdoor activities, with beautiful Logoly State Park located just north of town and Lake Columbia a short drive west. Community events take the form of the annual Magnolia Flower Festival and the World Champion Steak Cooking Festival – a weekend full of family fun, food, and music.

Mountain view

Mountain View, a gorgeous North Arkansas town that prides itself on its unique Ozark culture and is known as the World Capital of Folk Music, boasts legendary musician Jimmy Driftwood among its past residents, and holds impromptu folk concerts on the portico of the town's hills. Check out the Music Store. Located in the north and surrounded by beautiful natural attractions including the White River river and the Blanchard Springs Caverns Caverns, Mountain View is an ideal base for exploring the wilderness of Ozark. Its charming city center is home to the Ozark Folk Center – a living museum dedicated to preserving traditional Ozark culture – and a quirky craft and gift shop community.
