Hulunbuir, China News Network, June 22 Title: "Net Red" Evenk Makes Deer People: It was the reindeer that led me back to the mountain forest

China News Network reporter Zhang Wei

"I don't want to sleep in a room where I can't see the stars, I've spent my whole life with the stars... I will be deaf if I can't hear the deer bells like flowing water..." Writer Chi Zijian described the evenk deer people in his novel "The Right Bank of the Erguna River".

For The "post-80s" Gu Musen, this is also his heart's words.

The summer solstice has arrived, and the reindeer who have been foraging all night have swung the bells around their necks and returned to the Evenk hunting camp with the thick fog of the early morning forest.

Gu Mu sen lit a smoked mosquito smoke for them, and the little ones slowly lay down around the smoke. "This season, there are more mosquitoes and cattle flies in the forest, and as long as there is plenty of moss, the reindeer will not go away."

Evenk made the deer tribe live in the Daxing'anling area for about 400 years. Located in the Aoluguya Evenk Ethnic Township in Hulunbergenhe City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, more than 300 tribes and more than 1,000 reindeer live in harmony with nature, living a simple and happy life.

"What drew you back?"

"It's a reindeer."

"When night falls and the street lights in big cities are gradually lit, the crisp sound of bells rings in my ears, taking me back to the depths of the distant Daxing'anling Mountains." In 2010, Gu Musen, who graduated from university, worked in Beijing, and even though he had seen thousands of worlds, he still missed the reindeer he had been with since he was a child.

In 2015, Gu Musen quit his job in Beijing and returned to the mountain forest to work at the local reindeer population improvement experimental station. In 2019, Gumusen "started" with 4 doves and 1 male deer, and supported his own reindeer hunting site.

Gu Musen, who graduated in veterinary medicine, aims to increase the Chinese reindeer population and improve the reindeer breed.

Spending 350 days a year with reindeer in Gumusen, who lives in the mountains, buys a lot of reindeer breeding books from the bookstore under the mountain, uses the spare time of herding reindeer to learn professional knowledge, and records the feeding habits, symptoms and effects of the reindeer every day. "At present, I have compiled a 10,000-word account of diagnosis and treatment and domestication of reindeer."

Years of experience in raising deer has enabled Gu Musen to practice the skill of a "midwife", and he can accurately judge which doe is about to be born.

Every year from mid-April to late May, the doe is concentrated in calving, and hunters walk a long mountain road through the snow every morning to retrieve the reindeer, and when they find that there are doe in labor or have already given birth, they will be brought back to the deer pen.

"Last year, the deer were born, the beaver attacked, and the fawn cubs were all captured." Gu Musen was heartbroken, and after consulting the old hunter, he combined his experience in deer breeding and began to move with the reindeer all the time, trying to avoid the wild beasts looking for blood to find the fawn cubs.

Today, there are nearly 50 reindeer hunters in Gumussen.

His wife, Kim Randy, was born in "Generation Z", but has been living in the mountains with Gumusen as his little assistant. "Usually help him catch fawns, feed reindeer, and do some work that he can."

Gu Musen felt that his national reindeer culture was also very distinctive, so he used the camera to record his family's deer breeding life and posted it on the short video platform, "I didn't expect the response to be very good." ”

GuMusen still remembers the video that made him explode: "Every morning the doe returns with the fawn, I will light the mosquito smoke outside the picket in advance." ”

"One morning, the doe came back alone to help me and led me all the way to the depths of the forest." Until the doe took him to find the fawn, Gumusen said, "the little guy was lying on his stomach in the bushes, his face was swollen from being scratched by the lynx, and there were bite wounds on his body." ”

Gu Musen sent this video of the deer mother asking for help to the Internet, but he did not expect that the number of views exceeded 10,000, and the number of likes also reached 4,000 or 5,000.

"After the short video became popular, my hometown and Evenk made deer culture pay attention." Gu Musen said, "I never thought that Ren Xianqi could find me to make a documentary. ”

After doing self-media, many network experts and celebrities found Gumusen, "I am free to be their guide, to tell them about the culture and history of evenk deer, just so that more people can understand our nation." ”

Now The Gumusen couple and his reindeer, and even their 1-year-old son, Gyalta, have become "Internet celebrities". Gumusen's short video account attracted 332,000 fans, and the number of likes reached more than 6 million.

In 2022, Gu Musen founded his own media company, signed a contract with young Evenk people in the township to be "artists", and led the young people in the township to study short videos together and jointly promote their hometown and national culture.

In the same year, the Gumusen family was awarded the title of "Five Good Families" in inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Kim Randy said that now the family of three is in the mountains all year round, with reindeer, especially happy. "The government has provided hunters with warm and comfortable RVs, living conditions have improved, and we live a secluded life, especially quiet."

The forest is the foundation of the Evenk people's life, and the reindeer are their spiritual totem. When the smoke rises again, the fragrance of leba and tea fills the woods, Kim Randy feeds the fawns, Gumussen fetches water in the river, Garta and the hounds play and play, and the reindeer loung around the camp, eating their favorite moss...
