"La Loica" and "La Tagua" are two small birds native to Matanzas, sharp and elegant, and like this cliff-side dwelling, precariously attached to the cliff-edge.
This "suspended" residence is located on the Pacific coast, while Matanzas is a coastal community in Chile.
It is known for its miles of sandy beaches and spectacular rock formations.
Along the long coastline, there are two holiday cottages that are seductively and wonderfully suspended on the hillside with the ocean as a backdrop.
The residence was designed by Croxatto & Opazo Arquitectos in San Diego. The main structure of the wooden house breaks with tradition and uses dry pine wood.
The exterior is specially treated with oil to protect the material from marine corrosion.
The entire building boldly extends from the steep slopes, its wooden structure blends in with the surrounding nature, and the weathered finishes blend in with the landscape.
The two residences are only 19 and 24 square meters in size, but are not crowded due to their double-height living rooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, built-in furniture and spacious balconies designed as interior extensions.
The two cabins are spread out on two floors and are concentrated in a double-height living and dining space.
Floor-to-ceiling windows facing west allow the entire subject to be completely immersed in the seascape, circling the beach like a bird.
The bedroom window outlines the wooded hillside to the south, while the north side of the cottage overlooks the magnificent ocean rock mass.
Such a rich landscape is enough to make up for the shortcomings of the space area, but it is precisely because of its bird-like size that it can be truly engulfed in the waves and merge with the heavens and the earth.
