In Uttar Pradesh, some protesters set fire to a passenger train and police threw tear gas to disperse them. Police arrested 250 people for violent protests and opened cases against 400 unidentified people.

In Haryana, protesters blocked a highway. In neighboring Punjab, more than 50 demagogues vandalized railway facilities.

According to Reuters, the recruitment reform plan announced by India's Ministry of Defense aims to allow more young Indians to join the military with a four-year service period, as a way to reduce the average age of 1.38 million Indian servicemen and cut the rapidly growing pension costs. Protesters, who are predominantly young, believe the scheme limits their chances of permanent work in the defence forces, which enjoy fixed salary guarantees, pensions and other benefits in India.
