On June 1, 1963, the Taiwan Air Force organized daily training, and two fighters took off, both American-made F-86F jet fighters. At this time, the captain was Xu Tingze, a captain of the forty-second squadron of the eleventh brigade of the second wing of the Kuomintang Air Force, and another as a wingman, who followed him to learn to fly, was a new pilot.

Xu Tingze
Soon, Xu Tingze asked the ground for instructions, everything was ready, and asked to take off. After ground approval, the two fighters took off on time.
At this time, Xu Tingze was very excited. Because, this time, he will carry out the most important plan in his heart, fly back to the mainland, and return to his hometown where his soul is haunted.
He made up his mind that he would either shake off the wingman or shoot him down, or his plan of insurrection would not succeed. Therefore, after liftoff, he climbed and turned, causing the wingman to scramble and not keep up with his rhythm.
Just then, the wingman suddenly reported that the plane's fuel gauge had failed. Xu Tingze, who was considering shooting him down, was overjoyed and immediately asked for instructions to return to the ship. The tower approved, and the wingman reversed direction and returned. At this time, Xu Tingze drove the plane behind and deliberately kept a distance. Suddenly, he climbed up quickly, then made a big turn and flew quickly toward the mainland.
The ground immediately discovered this anomaly and made urgent contact with Xu Tingze, warning him of yaw and asking him to return immediately. However, where Xu Tingze still listened to him, he desperately accelerated and flew towards the mainland.
At this time, the tower preliminarily determined Xu Tingze's intentions, and immediately ordered the 4 fighters who were training around to intercept Xu Tingze. However, Xu Tingze was the best pilot in Taiwan, and his flying skills were very high; although the other four fighters came at him quickly, he quickly threw off 4 fighters with excellent flight skills, flew into the airspace of the mainland, and began to seek contact with our army, successfully landing at an airfield in Fujian.
When the ground personnel of my Air Force learned that he was a pilot who surrendered to the Taiwan uprising, they quickly reported to their superiors. For a time, the news that Xu Tingze returned to the mainland by plane caused a sensation throughout the country. He also became the first air hero to return to the mainland in an uprising since the founding of New China.
General Liu Yalou, commander of the Air Force, went to the Fujian Air Force to attend the welcome meeting, announcing that Xu Tingze was awarded the rank of major in the Air Force and awarded 2500 taels of gold. After the Fujian celebration meeting, Xu Tingze was again taken to Beijing and cordially received by the party and state leaders.
At that moment, he felt a strong feeling of homecoming, and truly felt the warmth and tolerance of the party.
Then, why did Xu Tingze choose to return to the mainland without hesitation? This has to start at the beginning.
Xu Tingze was born in 1928 in Qianjiang, Chongqing. In 1945, with hatred for the Japanese invaders, he joined the Kuomintang forces to participate in the War of Resistance. Unexpectedly, shortly after he joined the army, the War of Resistance Against Japan was over, and he regretted missing the opportunity to hunt down and kill the Japanese on the battlefield.
What puzzled him was that the peace that the people of the whole country had been looking forward to was destroyed by Chiang Kai-shek, who brazenly launched a civil war.
Xu Tingze first thought of retiring, but the radio technology he learned at that time was a scarce profession. Therefore, it is impossible for the Kuomintang to retire him.
In 1949, when the Kuomintang defeated Taiwan, it directly took him away. The moment he got on the plane, Xu Tingze secretly wiped a handful of tears. This time, the future is uncertain, I don't know if I can come back, and I don't know if I can see my parents and relatives again. But he was determined that he would come back in the future, and this was his root.
Soon after Xu Tingze arrived in Taiwan, Taiwan selected flight personnel, because of his outstanding physical fitness and understanding of radio, he was quickly selected and sent to the aviation school, and became a pilot of the Taiwan Air Force after graduation.
However, in the days of the Taiwan Air Force, he was extremely depressed. Although he is very good and his flying skills are very good, the corrupt environment makes him depressed, there are people who can communicate with the door, and the flying skills have improved no matter how bad, but he has no prospect of promotion.
Most importantly, Taiwan has conducted several so-called "loyalty physical examinations," and he has been the subject of key scrutiny, and many people have also sidelined him and falsely accused him of his excellence.
At this time, the mainland's direction kept publicizing the construction situation to Taiwan, and he learned through many channels that the mainland's economic development, its military strength had increased, and it had absolute trust and preferential treatment of those who surrendered to the uprising, and various factors were superimposed, and Xu Tingze was determined to fly back to the mainland on a plane to find a bright future.
After Xu Tingze returned to the mainland and joined the Air Force, he was highly trusted and valued by the PLAAF, and successively served as deputy regimental commander, deputy chief of staff, and vice president of the 12th Flight School of the Air Force, making great contributions to the cultivation of air force talents on the mainland.
Xu Tingze retired in 1988 and died in 2005, completing his worthwhile life.
