As a prolific designer, JMG loves Asia. Born in Germany, he moved to Asia at the age of 25, and as early as 1981, the 26-year-old JMG visited China and has been here hundreds of times since. His ex-wife, Dr. Chinese from the West, is now half Chinese and now lives in Kuala Lumpur with his wife and children.
Throughout Jean-Michel Gathy's design career, the hotels he has worked on have been luxurious or expensive. JMG himself has mocked himself as a little boy spoiled by a luxury hotel.

JMG's first hotel project in his life was Amanwana, and after that, he hung up on the road of luxury hotel design, leaving many masterpieces around the world, in addition to Aman, Mandarin Oriental and Hakuba Manor are his clients. Many of the most popular designs since then, such as luxury tent accommodation and water hammocks, have been created by JMG.
In the post-epidemic era, JMG is still favored by major luxury brands.

In addition to renewing the frontier with Aman and creating the New York semicolon, JMG also worked for Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi and Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River for Four Seasons Hotel Group, both of which opened their doors in the second half of 2020.

JMG's design of the four seasons of Otemachi in Tokyo cleverly allowed guests to overlook the Imperial Palace in their rooms, while respecting the Emperor and not violating the Emperor's rule of "looking down" from a high place.
The hotel's interior design presents an exploration and imagination of Japanese origami art, and each of the 190 rooms and suites is decorated with artwork by Namiko Kitaura, giving a feeling of lightness and agility – a tribute to the natural flowing fabric aesthetic that Japanese fashion master Issey Miyake insisted on.

Navigating through the cascading green courtyards, the unique arrangement allows each courtyard to maintain its uniqueness while being interconnected. The interior design integrates the luxurious GENES of the Four Seasons brand with the local culture, while allowing a low-key and elegant lifestyle to be displayed in the design of the hotel.
