The name Ban Ban Yao comes from the rock tea Bible Lin Fuquan's "Wuyi Tea Raw Tea Manufacturing and Distribution" book: This tree is produced on the third cliff of Zhongshan Sanhuayan, and its terrain is so steep that it is the crown of any tea-producing land.

According to the "Wuyi Rock Tea Name Series" compiled by Luo Shengcai, a senior agronomist of Wuyi Rock Tea Breeding Expert, the Half Day Demon, formerly known as Half Day Harrier and Half Day Waist, is native to the third peak cliff of Jiulong Yao Sanhua Peak in Wuyi Mountain. Judging from the original name of the Half Day Demon, the Wuyi Rock Tea Half Sky Demon, one of the four famous clusters, must have an extraordinary legend, and the legend of the Half Sky Demon not only shows the long history of the Half Day Demon, but also shows the love of the tea people of the past generations for the Wuyi Rock Tea Half Day Demon.
『Legend of the Half-Day Demon』
Legend has it that during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, the abbot of the Yongle Zen Temple in Tianyi Mountain had an occasional dream one day, dreaming of a white harrier with a shining gem in its mouth, and after being chased by a giant eagle, the harrier landed the gem on the halfway point of the Sanhua Peak in Wuyi Mountain.
In order to confirm the spiritual experience of the dream, the abbot of Tianxin Yongle Zen Temple sent a young monk to climb Sanhua Peak to look for the gems that the harrier had fallen.
The little monk obeyed the abbot's instructions and crossed the Peak of The Cloak, and after many hardships, he crossed to the top of Sanhua Peak. The little monk did not find the gem at the top of Sanhua Peak, but found that there was something shining halfway up the mountainside. The little monk struggled to climb to the middle of Sanhua Peak with the help of a rope. On a raised cliff halfway up the mountainside, the little monk found a seed of a tea tree that had sprouted and sprouted tender whiskers in a full emerald green. The little monk carefully picked up the seeds of the tea tree that had sprouted and brought them back to the temple and handed them to the abbot.
The abbot personally cultivated the tea seeds, and when the tea plants grew to a height of more than a foot, the abbot asked the little monk to transplant the small tea trees back to the mountainside of Sanhua Peak. The abbot believed that the seeds of this tea tree were given to the sanhuafeng halfway by the harrier and should be transplanted back, and he could not forcibly possess it.
Because the tea tree grows in the middle of the Sanhua Peak, it seems to grow in mid-air, and the tea seeds that cultivate this tea tree are given by harriers, so this tea tree is named "Half a Day Harrier". Because "harrier" is homophonous with "waist", and the tea tree grows on the mountainside, over time, this tea tree is harmonized into "half a day waist".
As for why "half-day waist" will evolve into "half-day demon", in addition to it may be because of the harmonic sound, there are also tea people who explain it this way, because the tea trees that grow on the dangerous cliffs, the tea soup tastes feminine and charming, the aroma is confusing, and it is unpredictable, so it is named "half a-day demon".
『Origin and Distribution』
Originating from the absolute cliff of the third peak of Sanhua Peak in Wuyishan City, Fujian Province, it is said that this tree existed in the late Qing Dynasty. It is mainly distributed in Wuyi Mountain Inner Mountain (Rock Mountain). Since the 1980s, Wuyishan City has had a certain area of cultivation. Some domestic scientific research and teaching units have introduced species.
『Tea Tree Characteristics』
