On March 8, 1935, Ruan Lingyu, the "first beautiful woman of the Republic of China", after leaving two suicide notes, swallowed more than 30 sleeping pills in one breath and died decisively.

Ruan Lingyu was born in Shanghai in 1910. Ruan Lingyu's father was a worker, and her mother was a servant of a large family, a family of three, and although the life was hard, it could be regarded as a happy life. A year later, her mother took Ruan Lingyu to a family surnamed Zhang to work as a maid, and this Zhang family was a rich man who could be ranked in Shanghai Beach.
Ruan Lingyu's mother was an open-minded woman, and she believed that Ruan Lingyu should not be a maid for the rest of her life like her.

After the divorce, Ruan Lingyu's suitors flocked to her like wild bees and butterflies, but she had lost her pure yearning for love, and the failed marriage made her heart like ashes. Coupled with the reasons of the war, Ruan Lingyu only wanted to live. She ran from the mainland to Hong Kong, where she took root and continued to act in movies. However, Tang Jishan, who was very highly ranked, mediated from it, and the final result was that Zhang Damin and Ruan Lingyu signed a two-year agreement, and Ruan Lingyu promised to give Zhang Damin 300 yuan per month, however, this was a trap set by Zhang Damin.
After solving this important matter, Ruan Lingyu thought that she could finally live a happy life with Tang Jishan.
Like many feelings, at the beginning, Tang Jishan took great care of Ruan Lingyu and loved her very much. After the change of heart, Tang Jishan began to scold Ruan Lingyu more and more intensely, and the three-story small Western-style building with deep affection also began to make Ruan Lingyu become extremely afraid and cold.
To make matters worse, just when the deadline agreed upon by the two people was approaching, Zhang Damin was reluctant to pay a large amount of money every month, so he proposed to extend the period.
Zhang Damin had another plan: he decided to "extort" a sum of money from Ruan Lingyu again, and threatened: "If you don't give money, I will expose your identity as the nanny's daughter." ”
So Zhang Damin repeatedly came to the residence of Ruan and Tang to play rogue and misbehaving, threatening not to give up without getting 5,000 yuan. Tang Jishan, who should have protected her lover and stepped forward, only threw down one sentence: "This is a scoundrel, you solve it yourself, I will not give a dime" and turned away to leave, leaving Ruan Lingyu alone.
After Ruan Lingyu refused, Zhang Damin became angry and ashamed, and he made an extreme decision: to take Ruan Lingyu to court.
What is even more hateful is that at this time, in order to blackmail Ruan Lingyu, Zhang Damin actually betrayed his affairs with Ruan Lingyu and Tang Jishan to tabloid reporters.
"Forgery, cohabitation love, adultery", coupled with the performance of "New Woman", the malicious slander of tabloid reporters, aroused the hostility of the whole society to Ruan Lingyu.
Tang Jishan also beat Ruan Lingyu for his own face.

Zhang Damin's crazy revenge broke through her psychological defense line, and all that was left was endless collapse, while Tang Jishan on the other side had already ignored her life and death, and she did not choose to hold on again.
On March 7, 1935, she and tang Jishan, who seemed to be in a mysterious state, attended a dinner party at Lai Minwei's house.
She dressed up brightly, talked and laughed at the dinner party, hugged every friend present, and everyone thought she had walked out.
They returned to their home at No. 9 Qinyuan Village, Xinzha Road, and it was already one o'clock in the morning on March 8. On the way back, the two quarreled for some reason, and Tang Jishan also started to beat Ruan Lingyu. After arriving home, Tang Jishan instructed the maid to prepare some snacks for Ruan Lingyu and went upstairs into the bedroom.
Ruan Lingyu said: "It's very late, you go to bed first, I will remember the pocket account and come to sleep." "A dying woman, no one knows what she's thinking. Late at night, Ruan Lingyu personally boiled a bowl of porridge in her own kitchen.
She looked at the bowl of porridge and placed 3 bottles of sleeping pills in the porridge with trembling hands.
Before dying, Ruan Lingyu left two letters, one to Tang Jishan and one to Zhang Damin:

Two brief suicide notes, which are still tearful to read today. Ten miles of ocean field, thousands of miles of style, but behind this prosperity, there are too many bitterness and sadness.
On March 11, 1935, Ruan Lingyu was buried. 12 great figures in the history of Chinese cinema carried Ruan Lingyu's coffin slowly toward the hearse.
Surrounded by wreaths, Ruan Lingyu lay quietly on the spiritual bed, wearing a green embroidered cheongsam, as if she was just asleep.
More than 20 miles from the Lingtang to the cemetery, 300,000 Shanghainese spontaneously sent off Ruan Lingyu and crowded Jiaozhou Road.
In the nine years that Ruan Lingyu has devoted herself to the film industry, it is she who has brought them a glorious life of poverty.
The place where the hearse passed was empty of people, and she was very popular before she died, and she was also extremely sad after death.
What is even more shocking is that on that day, 7 people in Shanghai alone committed suicide for Ruan Lingyu's martyrdom, and they left a last word saying: "Ruan Lingyu is dead, what reason do we have to live?" ”

But no matter how luxurious the funeral, it cannot rewrite Ruan Lingyu's tragic life, and her rich flower in the world has withered away in advance.
Looking back at Ruan Lingyu's life, Zhang Damin, Tang Jishan, and Cai Chusheng, the three men are just three typical, the first rogue, the second selfish, and the third cowardly.
