Big3 League officially announced that Warriors assistant coach Barbosa will participate in the big3 league for the new season. Yes, you read that right, the teaching assistant is warming up. Barbosa's team is called "Ball Hogs", and he will be the captain, and the team is headed by Warriors star Rick Barry. The remaining two players are Jody Meeks and Will McDonald.
Barbosa announced his retirement on September 15, 2020, and was invited to join the Warriors coaching staff as a player coach. Barbosa played for the Warriors for two seasons, averaging 6.7 points, 1.6 boards and 1.4 assists per game, and won the championship with the team in 2015. During his time in the NBA, Barbosa played for the Suns, Raptors, Pacers and Celtics, and was named The Sixth Man of the Year in 2007.
The last assistant coach to warm up was the Rockets' Gerald Green, but the destination of the Nine-Fingered God Buckle was not the BIG3 League, but the Rio Grande Valley Vipers who joined the NBA Development League.
