In 1999, the 20-year-old Pi Hongyan triumphantly wore a red Chinese team uniform to the United States to play, and finally won his first open championship easily with super strength, of course, it was also the only championship that Chinese helped the national team win. Although that event is no better than the World Championships or the Olympic Games, it at least proves that Pi Hongyan has a certain strength.
However, what is unexpected is that Pi Hongyan, who returned home with honors and triumphs, just returned to China, received an order from the national team, and the moment she learned the news, Pi Hongyan was ignorant, without any reason, nor any recruitment, so she returned to Sichuan like a mistake? Ironically, at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, Gong Zhichao, the former national team teammate who won the badminton women's singles championship and Pi Hongyan, was also only 1.64 meters. The obvious people know that this is nothing more than a grandiose-sounding statement.
Pi Hongyan returned to her parents crying, but what made her even more uncomfortable was the oppression of survival.
After Pi Hongyan returned to the Sichuan Sports Team, most of the time was training, the opportunity to participate in the competition was very small, there were two domestic competitions in a year were not bad, and at that time her salary was 600 yuan per month, she not only had to live, but also to take care of her sick parents, life was very tight.

During that time, Pi Hongyan won the German Open and the runner-up of the Danish Open, in addition to participating in many competitions, and the results were not bad, and she reached 10th place in the world ranking.
Pi Hongyan had not yet changed her nationality, so she was able to return to China to represent the Sichuan team in the ninth Guangzhou National Games, when Pi Hongyan was in a very good state, and even defeated Hunan women's singles Gong Ruina in the bronze medal battle.
