Covington's original contract will expire at the end of the season. Under the collective bargaining agreement, two years is the upper limit on the clippers' contract extension with Covington; in the regular season this season, Covington played 23 games for the Clippers, started in 2 games, averaged 22.1 minutes per game, had 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1 assist, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocks, 50 percent from the field and 45 percent from three-point range.

The Clippers are eighth in the West with 42 wins and 40 losses this season, losing to the Timberwolves and Pelicans in the playoffs.
