As a combination of pickup truck and hardcore SUV, Jeep Gladiator real car arrived at the store a few days ago. The car was announced on April 15 and is priced at 509,900 yuan. It is reported that the first model sold in China is the Gladiator Advance Edition, which is limited to 500 vehicles nationwide, of which 150 are jungle green limited livery. It is worth noting that the gladiator pricing is consistent with the Wrangler 2022 2.0T Highland Bahamas Beach Powder Special Edition and the Wrangler 2021 2.0T Rubicon two-door version, both of which are 509,900 yuan.

From the front face alone, it seems difficult to tell whether this is a gladiator or a wrangler. Therefore, the gladiator positioned by the medium-sized pickup truck can also be simply understood as the "Wrangler pickup version". As a precursor model, the car added piano black spray 7-hole front grille, "Willys" bonnet decal, "Rolling Stone" element front fender decal, tail gladiator body silhouette metal logo, 18-inch double five-spoke meteorite lime spokes and so on in the exterior part.

Exclusive to the Gladiator Advance Edition, the car is also equipped with a Mobile roof platform. In terms of body size, the Gladiator Advance Edition is 5592/1894/1856 mm in length, width and height, and has a wheelbase of 3488 mm. It is reported that the maximum approach angle of the car is 40 degrees, the departure angle is 25 degrees, the passage angle is 18 degrees, and the minimum ground clearance is 249 mm.

As the biggest difference from the Wrangler model, the addition of the rear cargo compartment gives the Gladiator Advance more usable expansion. Among them, the maximum load mass of the car is 568 kg, the height of the rear cargo rail plate is 445 mm, the opening width of the tail baffle is 1270 mm, the baffle retract length is 1531 mm, and the baffle opening length is 2067 mm. In terms of cargo compartment configuration, the car is equipped with a triple-fold cargo compartment top cover, a 230-volt power supply with a 400-watt inverter and lights.

In terms of interior, the interior of the Gladiator Advance Edition is also similar in height to the Wrangler. From a configuration point of view, the car is equipped with steering wheel heating, automatic anti-glare interior mirrors, dual-zone air conditioning, front seat heating, 7-inch instrument display, 8.4-inch central control screen, Alpine 9-speaker audio, front/rear parking radar, reversing imagery and other equipment.

In terms of power, unlike the Wrangler domestic version of the model with a 2.0T engine, the Gladiator Advance Edition is equipped with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, with a maximum power of 209 kW, a maximum torque of 347 Nm, and a transmission system matching an 8-speed automatic transmission. Jeep said the engine was upgraded with a new thermostat and wide-angle injector specifically for the Chinese market, aiming to improve fuel economy.

In terms of four-wheel drive system, the Gladiator Advance Edition is equipped with the same Selec-Trac intelligent four-wheel drive system as Wrangler Sahara, with 2.72 times low-speed torque amplification gear, front and rear axles can be power conversion between 0-100%, and equipped with rear axle limited slip differential. In addition, the car is equipped with Dana44 M210/220 front and rear axles.
Market Environment:
Born on the same platform as the current Wrangler, the Gladiator debuted at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show and positioned as a mid-size pickup. From the perspective of the overseas mid-size pickup truck market, its competitors include Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Kurod and so on. If not limited to overseas brands, independent brands also have no shortage of medium-sized pickup trucks with off-road orientation, but to the level of 500,000 yuan, Jeep Gladiator is still a relatively unique existence, and it is difficult to find a pickup truck model with which it competes. Perhaps as an extension of Wrangler's products, providing further personalized options, this may be the ultimate positioning of the gladiator.
