TRUMPF Group announces new TruMicro ultra-short pulse lasers

(Global TMT, April 29, 2022) -- At the Munich Optical Fair, global high-tech company TRUMPF unveiled two new series of its new generation of TruMicro ultra-short pulse lasers (USP) – the TruMicro 6000 and TruMicro 2000 – that feature new technology platforms to increase power and flexibility. Ultrashort pulse lasers are frequently used in the electronics manufacturing industry, where they are used to produce printed circuit boards, displays, etc.

The TruMicro 6000 series based on innovative slat technology

Based on lath technology, the new generation of TruMicro 6000 meets different machining needs from cutting to drilling and is suitable for multiple industries. Its gain medium is slatted because it looks like a tile or plate. The laser passes through the slats and passes in a zigzag shape between its two end faces. The advantage of the slats is that this gain medium is very conducive to cooling, making high pulse energies with high repetition rates possible. This is a tool with a pulsed energy of a few millijoules that can be used to process glass up to 6 mm thick, such as drilling holes in glass.

Ultra-short pulses reduce thermal stress in highly sensitive materials. The high peak pulsed power level guarantees optimum quality matched to maximum productivity.

TruMicro 2000 – an extremely versatile tool

The new generation TruMicro 2000 stands out from its class with an average output power of up to 100 W. Its high power speeds up the machining process. Based on fiber optic technology, the TruMicro 2000 has parameters such as pulse duration, repetition rate and pulse energy that can be adjusted within milliseconds to accommodate a wide range of uses. The energy and duration of a single pulse remains very stable. These pulses can be used for a variety of purposes, for example, cutting highly sensitive medical products such as stents, structuring surfaces, and marking a variety of materials from glass and plastic to corrosion-resistant metals. The compact, lightweight design of the new TruMicro 2000 is an advantage, but it can be used with LLK-U. LLK-U is an air-core fiber-based ultrashort pulse laser cable that makes ultrashort pulses very easy when applied to the industrial sector. Air-core optical cables allow the laser to have a stable, simple path from the beam source to the processing head and then directly to the workpiece, eliminating the need for complex beam guidance devices or polarizers.
