author:Pengo in Algeria

Hello everyone, I am Peng ge, I have lived and worked in Algeria in North Africa for 12 years. I'm mainly doing construction and agriculture here. In terms of architecture, I started my construction company in early 2016 and have now worked on nearly 50 projects in Algeria, North Africa.

In terms of agriculture, last year I spent 10 million yuan to buy a 7,300 mu of agricultural land with freehold property rights. At present, it has not yet begun, and the initial plan is to grow potatoes on a large scale and sell them to Algerians, and a small number of high-priced vegetables that are not available in the local area and sell them to local Chinese. (Such as leeks, green onions, Chinese cabbage, etc., locally not available, the price is very expensive)

In the later stage, consider planting some alfalfa and developing a little aquaculture.

There are many fan friends who say that they read my post and want to invest in Algeria, but they don't know what the algerian economy is doing. Unstable political stability? So Pengo will now explain the general economic and political situation in Algeria since 1990.

Algeria is located in northwestern Africa. Bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Tunisia and Libya to the east, Niger, Mali and Mauritania to the south, and Morocco and Western Sahara to the west, it is the largest country in Africa with a coastline of about 1200 kilometers. The algerian topography is divided into three parts: the coastal plains and hills along the Mediterranean coast, the central plateau and the southern Sahara Desert. Algeria is a vast country, but most of it is covered by desert, forests and fine-stemmed needlegrass vegetation, and the desert area is more than 2 million square kilometers, accounting for about 85% of the total land area. The cultivated land area is about 8 million hectares, freshwater resources are scarce, and fishery resources are relatively rich. Algeria is rich in mineral resources, with more than 30 kinds, the most important resources are oil, natural gas and shale gas, and the reserves rank 15th, 10th and 3rd in the world respectively.

In 1992-1999, Algeria's political situation was in turmoil. In 1999, Bouteflika became general manager

After reunification, various measures were taken to restore domestic peace and stability, and since then, the political situation of the country has gradually stabilized and national construction has entered the right track. In 2019, Algeria experienced regime change and entered the period of building a "new Algeria", the Afghan government vigorously promoted economic structural reforms, promoted economic revitalization, established a diversified economy, launched non-oil and gas resource projects, reformed banking and finance, improved the environment for attracting foreign investment, and vigorously developed remote and backward areas. At present, in Algeria, the social security situation is deteriorating, and the risk of terrorist attacks in a few areas still exists, but the national security and counter-terrorism efforts are relatively large, the social security situation is controllable, and the order of production and life is basically normal.

Algeria has a large land area and population, rich oil, natural gas and shale gas resources, and the market volume is firmly at the forefront of Africa. In recent years, Algeria has continuously implemented five-year infrastructure plans, and the fields of roads, railways, communications, and electric power have all been developed to a certain extent, but there is still a certain distance from the planned goals. In addition, Algeria's agriculture, industry, tourism and other development levels are low, the development of the private sector is relatively backward, and the development potential is still very large. Since the fall in oil prices in the second half of 2014, algeria's economy has fallen into a downturn, social instability has risen sharply, and the political situation has faced a huge test.

The presidential election at the end of 2019 had the opportunity to get Algeria back on track, but the COVID-19 pandemic since the beginning of 2020 has made Algeria's economic recovery even more difficult.

Algeria has a sound legal system and clear legal provisions for investment, trade, finance and other fields. Adjustments to investment policy have been discussed, but the provisions of the Investment Law on principle 51/49 (which are derived from the 2009 Fiscal Supplement Act, which requires at least 51 per cent of Albanian shares in any project co-invested with foreign countries) have not changed substantially so far.

That is to say, Chinese want to set up a company in Algeria and carry out business activities, they must find an Algerian partnership, Chinese up to 49% of the company's shares, Algerians account for 51% of the shares. Because my wife is Algerian, so this convenient trouble is still small, I do the company's legal person, master 49% of the shares, the other half of the company, let the wife control it, the wife only as a shareholder, not a legal person, so the company's decision-making power is still in me.

If you want to know more about investing in Algeria and how to make money, pay attention to Pengo.
