In the absence of Russia and Ukraine, many countries snapped up Indian wheat! Brazil's self-nomination: it can produce 23 million tons of wheat per year

Both Russia and Ukraine are the world's leading wheat exporters. In 2021, Russia and Ukraine will supply 62.85 million tons of wheat to the world, accounting for 32.5% of the world's total. This year, conflicts broke out between Russia and Ukraine, and wheat exports between Russia and Ukraine were blocked, and the gap in wheat supply became wider and wider.

India is also one of the world's largest wheat producers. Due to quality problems such as mycosis and excessive use of pesticides, Indian wheat has been rejected by the mainstream market. Now that Russian and Ukrainian wheat cannot be shipped, many countries have begun to snap up Indian wheat. India has said it has exported large quantities of wheat this year to countries such as Bangladesh, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Oman and Qatar.

And, on April 18, Egypt, the largest wheat importer, also announced imports of Indian wheat. Although Indian wheat is shipped to Egypt at a higher cost, it is still much cheaper than European wheat. As of March 2022, India has exported 7.85 million tonnes of wheat.

India's wheat has been robbed wildly, and Brazil is a bit unconvinced. On April 26, Brazilian leaders said at the International Agricultural Technology Exhibition that Brazil could produce as much as 23 million tons of wheat a year. Brazil's current plan is to expand 100,000 hectares of wheat sown, so that Brazil's annual wheat production will increase by 300,000 tons.

According to official Brazilian data, in 2021, Brazil will produce only 7.7 million tons of wheat, and it also imports wheat from other countries. So Brazil will need some time to adjust to achieve 23 million tons of wheat production.

A report by the USDA's Foreign Agriculture Bureau (FAS) shows that Brazil plans to expand the planting area of wheat and corn in 2022/23. Wheat acreage will increase to 3.4 million hectares, with a yield of almost 9 million tonnes. The maize area is expected to expand by 1 million hectares, with an estimated yield of 22.5 million tonnes.

Global food demand has been strong this year, and Brazil's expansion of wheat and maize planting areas has increased the global food supply and contributed to global food security and stability.
