The widely circulated sayings in feng shui books are: "The number of rooms, it is advisable to be single and not double, and the book cloud: three auspicious, four fierce." "That is to say, if you are going to build a house, the number of rooms is preferably singular. After we delve deeper, we will find that this simple saying is based on the theory of easy learning and contains the profound philosophy of the ancestors of "the unity of heaven and man".
There are three rooms in the house, which indicates auspiciousness; if there are four rooms in the house, it is more unlucky; if there are five houses, one must be vacant; if it is seven rooms, two rooms must be vacant.
The "emptiness" in this saying "three auspicious and four fierce, five empty one seven empty two" can also be understood as "fierce" to a certain extent.
The number of rooms in the house now, in general, refers to the bedroom, living room, bathroom, kitchen, cloakroom, entrance and so on. Therefore, when modern residential buildings use the saying "three rooms and four fierce, five empty one seven empty two" to explain, we must count all the rooms in the house.
In this way, there will be no three most auspicious sayings, after all, modern houses, even if it is a one-bedroom and one-living room, counting the kitchen and bathroom are four, plus the entrance, it will be five.
Therefore, this saying that "three rooms are auspicious and four fierce, five empty one seven empty two" is not suitable for the situation of residential buildings.

First of all, the mansion we live in is also called the "Yang Mansion" in the folk, which is the opposite of the "Yin Mansion" of the grave where the deceased lived.
The double and singular mean the distinction between yin and yang, and the traditional singular is yang and the double number is yin. The yang house is auspicious with the yang, and the yin house is better with the yin. This is reflected in feng shui rulers such as Luban ruler and Ding Lan ruler.
The number of Luo Shu pays attention to change, so it begins with one and ends with nine, so as to determine the rules of the eight parties. Luo Shu occupies the four righteous palaces with the numbers of one, nine, three, and seven yangs, and the number of two, four, six, and eight yins in the fourth corner.
Therefore, the yang number starts in the east, the second south, the second west, and the second north. The yin number begins in the west, the second south, the second east, and the second north. That is to say, all things in heaven and earth begin with one, one is chaos; after that, two are born two, two are yin and yang; two are born three, three are the three talents of heaven and earth; and three are standing, giving birth to all things. Therefore, the old ancestors also believe that the three rooms are auspicious houses, which is the beginning of the prosperity of the family; the five rooms are "houses", symbolizing the success of the career; and the seven rooms are "retreat houses", which can also be said to be conservative houses, suitable for raising the elderly; nine rooms are "poor houses", although the folk believe that nine is a very large and extremely auspicious number, but in terms of residences, the old ancestors do not advocate that there are nine houses in the family, because the old ancestors have the "prosperity and decline" of the exquisite!
