MIXD丨Surgeneous private office in Warsaw

author:uoohe

Experience-based practice designed an elegant surreal private office in Warsaw, inspired by the film "Inception". Conceived as the headquarters of Echo Investment, a large Polish developer, the project celebrates the endless possibilities created within the city. As you enter the lobby, wooden abstract architectural forms adorn the ceiling, referring to the iconic scene in "Inception", in which the city is turned upside down. The pieces of wood are also mirror images of the huge Warsaw model placed in the hall, showing the extent to which the current landscape of the capital is attributed to the buildings erected in its shape. Offering panoramic views of the city, the spacious rooms are decorated in warm tones, filled with brown and beige, complemented by a dizzying array of noble materials such as wood, ceramic, metal and leather.

The team also took some freedom in the décor, adding Magis's Spun chair to the lobby, a less subtle hint to the spinning gyro that appears in the film. Like architectural studios, models and urban planning are spread throughout the interior. The reception desk stands on an unfolded "graphic paper" illuminated by Artemide's Tolomeo drawing lamp. The design is located in the former Warsaw Brewery and also pays homage to the site's predecessor. Many copper details hint at the brewing barrel. In addition to copper, the original cast iron bars of the former brewery building have been converted into potted plants, while the front door handle is an interpretation of the Warsaw Brewery logo.

Each meeting room recreates a different stage of sleep. As in dreams, surprising, impossible, non-existent things and events often pop up, and in every conference room at least one of the characteristic elements comes from the boundary between lucidity and dream or the realm of optical illusion. From a room with a copper lens with an inverted viewing angle, a room with an impossibility triangle of Penrose, a "building" room with a model of the same room inside, a room with 3D printed elements, a "origami" room, the ceiling appears in the form of a scaled "expansive metal" made of felt. Works of art by Polish artists such as Martyna Berger, Nikodem Szpunar and Maciej Blaźniak are spread throughout the office. Some of the graphics are interpretations of the client's own architecture and were made specifically to meet the needs of the office.
