In the early morning, after eating breakfast and opening the gate, Zhang Guiquan's farmhouse bookstore ushered in today's first borrowing villager Yu Guoshu. Carefully searching by the bookshelf, Zhang Guiquan handed over the clean and tidy four famous works to Yu Guoshu's hand and instructed him to return them in time after reading them.
Looking at the back of Yu Guoshu's happy departure, Zhang Guiquan's face also showed a smile.
Outside the bookstore, surrounded by mountains and trees, early risers have successively entered the field to cultivate; in the bookstore, three large bookshelves are placed against the wall in turn, and each shelf is neatly arranged with various books, history, literature, agricultural technology... Since childhood, he likes to read, but he suffers from family financial difficulties, every time he sees a book he likes, Zhang Guiquan can't take a step forward and tries to raise money to buy it. "There was no extra money in the family, so I had to carry the grain to the market and sell it for money, and then buy the books and read them carefully."
Relying on this method, Zhang Guiquan accumulated a lot of books, which he carefully collected as a treasure. Relatives and friends also know that he loves to read and often gives it to him. In the 1990s, Zhang Guiquan's collection of books already numbered more than 500 volumes. "Many people like to come to me to borrow books, and I am willing to lend them, so that everyone can share the joy of reading."

Zhang Guiquan's hometown is in Nanmu Village, Tanchang Street, Renhuai City, which is located deep in the mountains, and when there was no bus in the past, if you want to read a book, you have to walk to the county bookstore 20 miles away to buy it, or go to the library to borrow it. The journey of several hours hinders the desire of many people to read books.
What Zhang Guiquan wants to do is to help the villagers open the door of reading.
In 1996, Zhang Guiquan used his own house to build the first rural bookstore in Renhuai City, named "Little Cursive Bookstore". "The name 'Little Cursive Bookstore' is that I have written a poem about Xiaocao before, and I hope that this bookstore can bring hope to more villagers, especially children."
The 20-square-meter book house has its own collection of books, there are also books donated by caring people, at most, the collection of books in the small cursive book house reaches more than 5,000 volumes, more and more villagers come to the small cursive book house to borrow, and some villagers also discuss the books they read and Zhang Guiquan.
"Especially in the evening, after a busy day, the villagers finished dinner, came to me in pairs to borrow books, and then chatted and talked about the feeling of reading, and I felt very happy in my heart." Speaking of this, the corners of Zhang Guiquan's mouth rose unconsciously.
The villagers love the small cursive bookstore, and Zhang Guiquan is happy in his eyes. His wife also helped him take care of the bookstore in her spare time, and the bookshelves were wiped clean every day, and every book was kept as clean as possible.
Year after year, day after day, Zhang Guiquan persevered for 26 years.
In recent years, life in the village has become better and better, the popularity of mobile phones and computers has made the villagers who come to borrow books much less, but Zhang Guiquan did not want to give up, in order to facilitate the villagers to borrow books in time, he almost did not go far, either at home to create, or do farm work not far from home.
In Zhang Guiquan's view, as long as there is a person who comes here to borrow books, this bookstore has the meaning of existence.
In the past 26 years, the little cursive bookstore has welcomed wave after wave of readers, accompanying one child after another from "small grass" to "big tree". Due to the strong reading atmosphere, in recent years, many children in Nanmu Village have been admitted to universities, and in 2019, Zhang Zhu, the son of villager Zhang Guiping, was admitted to Peking University, and Zhang Guiquan's son Zhang Yuexin was also admitted to Tianjin University of Science and Technology.
Zhang Guiquan always believes that reading can make people's souls noble, and knowledge can change lives.
According to incomplete statistics, since 1996, more than half of the more than 2,800 villagers in the village have borrowed books from the small cursive bookstore, and the number of borrowers has exceeded 100,000. The small cursive bookstore subtly promotes the construction of rural civilization in Nanmu Village. Zhang Guiquan said that this is the original intention of opening his own cursive bookstore: "Open the door for villagers to read, so that more and more people can read and benefit." ”
In 2017, Xiaocao Bookstore was awarded the honorary title of "National Demonstration Farmhouse Bookstore", becoming the only rural bookstore in Renhuai City to receive this honor, and Zhang Guiquan also won the honor of "National Excellent Farmer Bookstore Administrator".
In his spare time, Zhang Guiquan also insisted on creating. At present, the first draft of a documentary novel that reflects the development and changes of Nanmu Village, "A Dream of Love", has been completed. He said that he should continue to contribute to promoting the building of spiritual civilization in rural areas.
