Strange Circle Finance reported on April 21 that Elon Musk has raised $46.5 billion in financing to launch an acquisition of Twitter, of which he himself invested $21 billion. Musk's financing came from Morgan Stanley and other financial institutions. $13 billion in financing reportedly came from Morgan Stanley and other banks, of which as much as $12.5 billion was loans secured by his Tesla stock, in addition to borrowing about $21.5 billion with the remaining shares.
A filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Thursday confirmed that the world's richest man is exploring whether to launch a "takeover offer" to buy the remaining Twitter shares. Musk currently owns 9.2% of Twitter and is already the largest shareholder of Twitter.
After becoming Twitter's largest shareholder, Musk refused to join the company's board. The move was also seen as a "mismatch" between Musk and Twitter management.
Before launching his takeover offer, Musk had already mentioned a series of changes he could bring to Twitter, including introducing an edit button for tweets and turning Twitter's San Francisco headquarters into a homeless shelter.
The takeover offer is seen as a hostile takeover that bypasses Twitter's board of directors. In traditional acquisitions, the board is expected to recommend an offer to shareholders.
