The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) announced that it will launch two new banknotes this week, in denominations of AED 5 and Dirham 10 respectively.

The AED 5 note will remain brown and the Dh 10 note will remain green, with both banknotes bearing portraits of the late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and they are also printed with striking Braille symbols to help the visually impaired.

The obverse of the AED 5 note bears the image of Fort Ajman, an ancient monument that bears witness to the UAE's historical heritage, and on the reverse is an image of the Ras Al Khaimah Dhayah Fortress – another famous cultural landmark in the UAE.

The obverse image of the 10-dirham note is of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and on the back is the Khorfakkan Amphitheater in Sharjah.

It is reported that the new banknotes will be issued on April 21 and April 26, and they will circulate with the current banknotes.
