On April 21, Beijing time, Manchester United officially announced that Eric Tenghag will serve as the team's new manager, and his term will be from the end of this season until June 2025, with an additional one-year extension option. This appointment will take effect after the processing of their work visa is complete. Tenhag also became the second Dutch manager in the history of the team after Louis van Gaal.
After United sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, they hired Lonnick to temporarily coach and began the recruitment and interview of a new manager. Coaches such as Pochettino, Luis Enrique, Rodgers and Lopetegui have all been shortlisted, but United ultimately chose Tenhag, who is not coaching in the top five leagues.
Tenhag, 52, played centre-back as a player, but didn't play well. He began his coaching career in 2012 with the Eredivision B side Forward Eagles, and from 2013–15 was head coach of the Bayern reserve team, while the bayern first-team manager at the time was Pep Guardiola.
In 2015, Tenhag returned to the Netherlands to coach Utrecht, leading the team to the top five of the league. In December 2017, he was favoured by Eredivisie giants Ajax and has since won two Eredivisie titles, two Dutch Cups and one Cruyff Shield.
However, what really made Tenhag famous in European football was the 2018-19 season, when he led Ajax to the champions league final four again after 22 years, and finally regrettably eliminated by Tottenham in the semi-finals and missed the Champions League final.
Tenhag pays attention to passing, attacking and pressing, so it is known as the "new Guardiola". His contract with Ajax only had a €2 million termination clause, coupled with the good relationship between Manchester United and Jaya, so the two sides reached an agreement.
However, Tenhag will continue to lead Ajax to the Eredivisie title this season, and Lonnick will continue to lead Manchester United to compete for four, and when the season is over, the former will officially take office, and the latter will turn to the club's adviser.
