Nevio Scala, a meritorious coach who rose to prominence at Parma in the early 1990s, was born on November 22, 1947 in Lozo Artestino, Italy. From July 1989, he was the head coach of The Serie B team Parma, and in the 1989/90 season he finished fourth and took the last train to enter Serie A. With the support of Palmarat founder Calisto Tanzi, he built the new Serie A force into a powerful force in Europe, leading the team to win the Coppa Italia in 1991/92, the European Cup Winners' Cup the following year, and the European Super Cup. In 1994/95 he finished third in Serie A, the best record he achieved in Serie A with Parma. Parma won the second European trophy in the club's history, the UEFA Cup, that season. He stepped down in June 1996 as a meritorious coach in parma club history.
