Dennis Ugas, the current WBA super boxer Cuban, was incredibly imprisoned six times to fulfill his sports dreams, and finally came to the United States to realize his dream.
Ugas went on an extraordinary life journey to become a boxing world champion, including six prison sentences before realizing his boxing dream, and eventually becoming a professional boxer through Ugasnu's efforts.
The amateur competitions that preceded Ugas's realization of his sporting dreams included the Cuban 60 kg champion from 2005 to 2008, the 60 kg champion at the 2005 Amateur Boxing World Championships, the 60 kg champion at the 2006 China-North America and Caribbean Games, the 60 kg champion at the 2007 Pan American Games, and the bronze medal in the 60 kg category at the 2008 Olympic Games.
As an amateur boxer, Ugas could only become a professional boxer if he fled his home country. In his native Cuba, paid sports have been banned since 1959. He failed in six attempts to defect, all of which led to jail time, culminating in his arrival in Mexico, uncarriaged, and headed to the United States to start a new life.
"There is no doubt that my inner will is always brought into battle," Ugas told reporters for the Sun. After a few days in prison, I was really depressed at times, but I never lost hope. When you're a high-profile athlete, it's important to be a role model. I will always do my best to be a humble boxer who inspires others. ”
After Ugas won the vacant WBA (regular) title in 2020, he became a WBA (super) champion last year due to Manny Pacquiao's long absence, and later he really beat Pacquiao to successfully defend his title convincingly.
