Wipe the gun

Huang Xiaolong (Miao)

We who are soldiers always have some memorable things in our military life. Especially at the beginning of the army, there were many firsts. For example, the first time to write a family letter, the first time to stand guard, the first time to go to the queue, the first time to help the kitchen, the first time to operate the gun, the first time to shoot, the first time to wipe the gun and so on. And the first time I wiped the gun, I remember it very deeply.

There is a famous saying in the military that you should love the weapons in your hands as you love your own eyes. Every soldier is trying to put this famous saying into practice with his own practical actions.

Wiping the gun, one is to clean the hygiene of the gun, and the other is to maintain the performance of the gun.

30 years ago, as early as the training of recruits in the 5th Company of the Second Battalion of the Independent 308th Regiment of Artillery of the Tibet Military Region, I participated in the ordnance and clerical training organized by the regiment, and the ordnance staff officer of the regiment's logistics department served as an instructor. Of the more than a dozen people, I was the only recruit. I had the privilege of touching, holding, shooting, and wiping guns before my comrades who had joined the army. The decomposition and combination of guns is an important training content. I gradually understood in my heart that as an ordnance man, I had to wipe a gun.

Before wiping the gun, examine the gun first. I have also heard stories of accidental injuries and deaths caused by accidental injuries when wiping guns.

After inspecting the gun, he took out a prepared piece of bedding, a small bottle of gun oil, a white sheet, and some strips of cloth and pieces of cloth. Take out the attachments and strips of the screwdriver and put them away, and according to the order of the magazine, receiver cover, re-entry spring, and re-entry machine, the gun is decomposed and placed on the mat in an orderly manner, and the dust on the surface of the firearm is first wiped off one by one with a dry cloth piece, and then the gun parts are wiped with a cloth dipped in gun oil. The most difficult to wipe is the barrel, if you do not pay attention, either can not wipe clean, or the cloth strip is blocked in the barrel, you must skillfully use the strip, accessories to wipe the barrel clean. In short, wiping the gun is a skill, and it is not sloppy.

I remember when I was studying at the Kunming Army Academy, the highest military institution in the southwest, because I was an infantry command major, small arms shooting became a common thing. The brothers in the class had an unwritten rule that every time they returned from a target shoot, the comrades with the fewest rings wiped their guns. Fighting for honor, everyone usually trains harder and shoots live ammunition more seriously, but every time someone takes a duck pole (that is, the last one). Tian Jingcai, Li Jinbin and other students are very accurate in marksmanship and often rank among the best.

In the year of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, I was serving as a platoon leader in the reconnaissance company of the 52nd Brigade of the Mountain Infantry Brigade of the Tibet Military Region. Regularly wiping down guns is a glorious tradition of the whole company, which is lined up in the company dam and the cadres and soldiers are on board. At that time, Captain Li Liang, the company commander, Captain Li Jiliang, the political instructor, Lieutenant Zhang Hua, the deputy company commander, Lieutenant Li Dongfang, the deputy instructor, Lieutenant Guo Dawei, the platoon leader, Lieutenant Shu Jialiang, and the platoon leader, Lieutenant Xia Jun, always wiped their guns with everyone. The company is worthy of being commended by the Chengdu Military Region as a model unit for gun and ammunition management. The military is a big school and a melting pot. What is proud is that Hou Yun, a soldier in the platoon at that time, has now grown into a deputy to the National People's Congress and deputy commander of the Shannan Military Sub-district.

At the end of the 1990s, I exchanged with the Tibetan army and returned to work in the Guizhou Provincial Military Region. When working in the provincial military district organs, there were also one or two small arms shots a year, but with the support of the brothers of the independent battalion, they rarely wiped their guns.

Later, according to the organizational arrangement, I successively served in the People's Armed Forces Department of Qingzhen City and Huaxi District. Due to the different divisions of labor in the revolution, I served as the commander-in-chief of the militia training live-fire scene many times, and I never wiped the gun again.

Today, I have been taking off my uniform for more than five years, but as a veteran who has been in the military for 25 years, I still remember the scenes of wiping guns. In particular, the seriousness of wiping the gun has been successfully copied in the current work and study, which has benefited me a lot.
