Aalsmeer had already heard the story of Cai Ye and the prostitute Xiao Fengxian, and after a series of examinations, he judged that Cai Yi had throat syphilis.
Prostitutes and syphilis are too easy to contact, especially, Cai Yi's symptoms are too similar to syphilis. In fact, cai yi's disease is laryngeal cancer.

During his ten days in Chengdu, Cai Yi made a drastic move to straighten out the Sichuan army, unify financial revenue and expenditure, and formulate regulations on rewards and punishments for soldiers and officials. He also held frequent military and political meetings, and the heavy work made Cai Yi's health worse and worse.
Before leaving Chengdu, Cai Yi was already weak enough to "not even take three or two steps." After an examination in Chengdu, Cai was diagnosed with laryngeal tuberculosis. The doctor also told him that the climate in Sichuan is not conducive to treatment.

One day, Cai Yi finally couldn't help but take his wife along the coast and walked to the reef. After seeing the big reef in the distance, Cai Yi was very excited. He immediately stopped at the shore and sat down cross-legged, and for a long time afterwards he stared blankly at the big rock tumbling in the sea.
Pan Huiying already knew that the reef was where they had formed an alliance. She also knew that in their youth, they had the ambition to serve the country countless times with patriotic young people talking about state affairs, ideals, and personal ambitions on that reef.
Because she understood, when Cai Yi was looking at the reef cross-legged, Pan Huiying had been silently accompanying her, and she was also like him, looking at the reef in a daze.

Seeing that he was awake, Pan Huiying rushed to pour a glass of water, drink the water, and take a few pills, Cai Yi instructed the adjutant to take Yongning out to play, leaving only Huiying to accompany him in the room, resting in peace.
Pan Huiying's mood is already very bad, the news she got from the doctor is not optimistic, she knows: her husband can't resist this time. Cai Yi knew his body very well, and he advised the lady: "If you really die, this is also the destiny of heaven, the law of nature, there is no need to be sad." ”
In the days that followed, Cai Yi often passed out, and during the time he was awake, he kept thinking about Huang Xing and their unfinished revolutionary cause. During this time, he also got bad news from Zhao Kun, the speaker of the Yunnan Provincial Council who came to visit him, and Zhao Kun told him:

When will the country that Cai Yi has put all his efforts into will be able to become prosperous and strong? Now, the answer to this question, he can no longer give. He hated, hated his sick body, hated himself for being able to watch the country split, the chaos of warlords dominating each other, and being powerless.
While worrying about state affairs, Cai Yi was also worried about Huang Xing's funeral, he struggled to personally write a condolence telegram for Huang Xing on his sickbed, and he also tearfully composed "Crying Huang Keqiang" to tie a pair, lian:
"To open the country with courage and health, and to maintain a quiet body and implement it is a person who can create a lifetime."

After writing, Cai Yi immediately wrote to his friend Zhang Jiasen, who lived in Shanghai, to go to the Spirit Hall to send a bang and pay tribute to Huang Xing on his behalf. After everything was properly arranged, Cai Yi's strength was also exhausted.
When he was dying, Cai Yi missed his hometown very much. His hometown of Shanmen in Wugang Prefecture (now Dongkou County) is really beautiful, and in front of the house is the winding Yellow Mud River, with blue waves. Behind the house, there are quiet and beautiful green mountains, rivers and mountains, and Zhong Lingyu show.
When he thought of his hometown, Cai Yi's heart felt peaceful. Just when he was thinking about his hometown, a white-haired old man appeared in his mind, and this person was his mother Wang Shi.

Cai Yi sighed softly, after Pan Huiying held his hand, he looked at his wife, and then thought of the original wife Liu Xiazhen, daughters Zhulian, Shulian and Cai Duan, at this time, he also thought sadly: They have not seen each other for a year or two...

"First, may our people and the government work together to have a positive policy of hope; second, because of the struggle for rights, we are willing to be morally patriotic for those who have many opinions for the people; third, the fallen soldiers and those who contributed to the battle in Sichuan should beg Luo and Dai Liangjun to verify the petition and give them a reward to show encouragement; fourth, they should be buried in a short life and did not do their best to the Republic of China."
When dictating the will, Pan Huiying heard his voice getting lower and lower, and her heart was like a knife. After saying the word "thin burial", she watched his head slowly hang down, completely silent...
Pan Huiying fell on Cai Yi's body like crazy, tearing her heart and lungs and crying and shouting:

Four days after Cai E's death, the National Assembly decided to posthumously appoint Cai E as a general and hold a state funeral. In 1917, his coffin was transported back to Changsha and buried on the mountain of Yuelu, a famous mountain in Changsha.
