Yang Jinyu has created three series of works in recent years: "Silent in the Old Garden", "Testing the Water" and "Splashing". From the tranquility and even some alienation of the "Silent Garden" series to the idle state of people jumping into the pond from the mountain rocks in the "Testing the Water" series, Yang Jinyu is depicting a landscape that is close to the style of landscape painting. However, in traditional Chinese landscape painting, most of the people in the painting are hermits or wandering coats, while his paintings are everyday figures. The "Old Garden" may be related to Yang Jinyu's past life experience, such as most parks have rockeries and pond water landscaping, but here seems to be more of a metaphor for the ancient Chinese garden culture and the spiritual life of the literati.
In the latest "Splash" series, Yang Jinyu further purifies the form of the picture, becoming more solid and full in shaping the shape of the character, and paying more attention to the restoration of the inherent color of the object in terms of color. Yang Jinyu limits the expressiveness of oil paint language to his own formal exploration with the flat painting method, which also makes his creation closer to photography. Just as he uses photographs to create, Yang Jinyu's paintings still present a realistic narrative logic, but he is also becoming more and more aware of how to transform a photograph into a painting, eliminating unnecessary visual interference.
Of course, his interest in the ontology of painting is still far greater than the presupposition of ideas, and he is also actively looking for images that stimulate his desire to create: although the sociological and historical information behind these images is often ignored, the intercepted images are detached from their original context and become a shelved fragment. However, if we examine it over a longer period of time, these images will still stitch together Yang Jinyu's understanding and thinking about art and the value of human life.
